I finally got my shop.
My wife and I finally closed on our dream house late in 2016. My dream shop came with the house. It's a 30x40 foot shop attached to the back of the stand alone garage. I have not done much work in it yet because of the winter, but I am slowly starting to put it together. Below is a short gallery of my shop.
Pictures!!
As you can see, the primary thing I do in my shop is pinball machine restoration. This is the first time I have had the space to do a full machine tear down and build up. So far, I am having a blast with the tear down part, but I have to wait until it warms up to start the build up part of my latest restoration because it's too cold to paint. The only source of heat I have is a wood burning stove, and it doesn't heat up the area very well. Plus I imagine it would not get along well with the fumes from the paint I like to use.
Also pictured is my shop dog, Roxford. He is a mini Queensland heeler, and only 1 year old. He spends a lot of time following me around.
In the foreground of the last picture is my next future project, a 1980 Williams Alien Poker. This was formerly a parts machine I bought of a friend of mine. I actually am planning on putting a P-ROC into it (it's a programmable pinball board) and starting to write my own rule set for the machine. It's the kind of exercise in software/hardware that I love.
So my shop still needs many things:
1. Not pictured is the 12 foot hanging door that opens up to my back yard. It seriously needs some seals put around it to keep the mice out, and the warm air in.
2. The lighting is pretty horrible in the shop. Right now there is only 4 CF lights in the ceiling. I am looking to swap these out for 4 foot LED fixtures very soon.
3. I can tell already the shop needs fans. I think part of my heating problem is because of the lack of circulation combined with the 10 foot ceilings. In the spring, I may start replacing the ceiling fans in the house, so I will have access to some second hand fans for the shop.
