This is an awesome site. I keep googling tools and items I know nothing about, and either find someone talking about them here, or find someone selling the same item on ebay.

My name is Mike. As I've recently begun sorting through a lot of tools passed down from my dad and grandfather. I've set aside 1-2 of all the basic things, and still have 300-400 items to get rid of.

I'm going to hold a garage sale, but only for the stuff with little value. Selling off hose clamps, sanding discs, screwdrivers (I have 42 straight edge alone), chisels, punches, files(about 50 combined), 6 full drill indexes, a dozen channel lock pliers, 14 hammers (inc one peculiar one with a square head and a circle head), hole saws.....he had a ton of these. Must be 40 or more in this drawer. Half are newer looking threaded type by Starrett, and a bunch of older ones with no threads, just a rectangular hole. They look like what is used for installing door locks, as the smaller ones are kept inside the one just a size larger, etc.

Then there is the vintage stuff that I see selling on ebay and etsy. I would love to partner up with someone who has a good seller's reputation/feedback, and let them take some of the sales amount for their efforts. If anyone knows anyone in VA or MD who might be interested, please send me a message.

I have an old (working perfectly) Powerstat regulator V116, a Kennedy Kits toolbox, Old weller soldering guns, and Ungar irons, 5 Blue Point wrenches, lots of iron stuff, some of which I have to clean up to see if I can read anything. I have this "Black Box" breakout box/cable tester that someone is selling for over $300 online. Another company wants $540 for a new one. I don't know where that value comes from from a plastic box with pins you can short with jumpers or open with switches. Crazy. Vintage Lufkin wooden rules, speedwinder, tempered steel rules, angle/level combos, squangle, vintage Fendall safety glasses, expensive medico locks with interchangeable cores.

Now I need to sort and categorize the pile of chisels and files......

Cheers

WOW... sounds like my neighbor.

He has tons of everything, can't find a screwdriver, he goes and buys a new SET !! I asked to borrow a gear puller, he said sure what size. had a few on the workbench, and then half a dozen in the cabinet, some still in the package. I borrowed two sizes i needed, and said I will bring them back as soon as I am done, he replied, No rush, if i need em I let you know. of course I took them back as soon as I was done.

May want to catalog and sort them, might be best to sell them in lots/ groups. unless there are some worthy items to sell alone. ebay is great but it is a buyers realm, have to list smartly and with a good price and shipping deal.

where are you located ??!

Hi Bears Fan...(I have family in Illinois)....I'm in Culpeper, VA. Have house up for sale, and will be moving to Baltimore Md area (hopefully Balt Co) area when it sells.

Speaking of gears reminds me he had some auto stuff I haven't gotten to pricing yet. One thing I did google b/c I had to know what a cylinder reamer was. Now I know. This one has "super range" whatever that is.

Yes, I do plan on putting together a detailed list and having pics of everything. I will share my list on as many websites that allow it.

I thought I'd get an email alert when someone replied to my post but it didn't happen. I will have to check the profile to see if I can set that up. It has been the default with other forums I've participated in over the years. I can't recall it ever NOT happening. : (

Cheers,
Mike

Thank you, will do. I read the one in this forum about spam and not quoting or replying to spammers. Have not been spammed yet. : )

I looked at my profile but didn't see any blanket option that alerts me for each reply. But I did figure out that you get the same result by subscribing to each thread and choosing instant email.
