Grey pneumatic on sale?

I could sure use some help here if possible guys. As sad as this sounds I've never owed any 3/8" impact sockets except for a couple required ones. Anyhow after 40 years of wrenching I've decided to get a set. Recently I purchased a set of GP 1/2" drive deep 10-36mm and so far am VERY happy.

So now that I'm looking for a set of 3/8, I found the 81 piece master kit at GP. Part #1281. So my question is does anyone know any companies that occasionally have a sale on the GP stuff?. So far I can't remember any sites that do. I'm not in a hurry, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

this place is the cheapest source I know of for Grey Pneumatic - just go to the site and search on the word "Grey" - make sure to spell grey correctly (no A in it)

www.mechanicstoolsandbits.com

PS - they also have the cheapest prices I have ever found on Knipex pliers, Astro Pneumatic tools and Flexilla air hoses as well - free shippin kicks in at $50

I have bought Knipex Cobras, Grey Pneumatic magnetic sockets, Flexilla air hose and Astro Pneumatic hose clamp pliers from them so far and been very pleased with the quality and shipping speed. They also take PayPal (important to us ebayers)

ToolTopia and ToolBarn seem to have really good prices on GP sockets.

Wild, thanks a bunch. I tried searching the part number with no luck, then I scrolled through all 336 gazillion items and I swear it seemed like they offered everything GP makes with the exception of that kit. BUT, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if there's anything they can do for me. Thanks again!.

TRC, I looked there too.

Don't get me wrong, it seems like these kits can be had in the low 300 range which is fine with me. But you know how it is, if I can get a deal it makes it all that much better.

I have toy and haven't ruled them out either. The kind of car I specialize in uses a bunch of 21 and a couple 22. The 3/8 kit with a great gun would be a easier fit. But it's not the deal killer. The only reason I know about gp and sunnex quality is from you guys. Btw, thanks

Are the Sunex thin wall? The main reason i want gp is because they have a thinner wall and are impact socket.

They offer the duro line (something like that) that is a in between thin wall/heavy wall and is impact rated. I got to admit, its an interesting option.

Another thing I noticed on the sunex is that the smaller socket tapers off near the top. GP has them tapered near the square drive rather than the top which is a huge plus for tight areas.

I also have the Duo's I use them hard daily in a HD shop and have never had an issue with a socket. And they are thin!
I switched from Snap On

Good to know. I've been planning to buy all sets of duo. 6 point and 12 point in all drives.

No kidding, that's interesting. Do you mind me asking why?. I've got a couple snap on sets and I love them. But the price just really hurts and I only buy them when the situation dictates the need for that level of quality. Like 1/4" swivel sockets, nothing I've come across matches their articulation and smoothness plus being a small/thin profile which can be extremely important.

No disrespect to the previous posters that talked about switching. I'm just wondering if you changed from say HF or Craftsmen or if it was something like Mac, SK, etc. I never expected someone to come to the table with a SO swap.

For the 1/2 stuff straight up the GP Duo is much thinner than the SO I had. I only have 12PT, use them for everything and never had a issue in 3 years! Sometimes that extra space really makes a difference. And to be honest I break 2-3 sockets a week (Snappy or Mac 3/8 drive chrome, with a impact of course) which isnt the same but I feel like its a decent indication of my hard usage.

For the swivels I completely switched over to Matco, they have the "pin-less" design or w/e. Its fantastic, used to have SO but they would always seize up. Again I use them hard daily without any complaints. Broke 2-3 in the last year I think. I have them in 1/4 thru 1/2 drive in most sizes and my universials cover the rest.

I believe SO is the only company that assembles their swivel sockets welds them then chromes over the welds. No one else comes close to that level of quality. But at 400 for 7pc thats too rich for my blood.I bought the Craftsman 42pc set of chrome swivel sockets allUS made 5-14 mm in 1/4 " 10-19 in 3/8"same ranges in sae+12pt 3/8"dr sae its a great set does the job gets excellent ratings I believe it lists for about $240 have seen it on sale for $180.That being said nothing holds it position or has as little play as the Snap On,maybe one day Ill upgrade in 1/4" drive we'll maybe after I get the power probe 3 .It never ends(sigh)

Thanks for the excellent input guys. I spent some more time looking over the GP stuff last night and noticed they don't offer the impact swivels in the duo line. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the 1281 set only because it's complete plus I have the thin wall socket selection almost 100% covered already. But my son is graduating hs this year and wants to wrench for a living. I'm thinking I'll buy him the duo kit. That way we might be able to eliminate and potential confusion over who's tool are who's, lol.
