I was on the mac truck today and drooling over a nice set of Mac 3/8 metric impact swivel sockets. The 380.00 price tag almost gave me a ******** heart attack though. So my dealer pulles out a set of GP 8-19mm for 170. Figured well...can't hurt to try...he said if I didn't like them I could apply the balance to the mac sockets. Anyone else use them? They seem pretty nice. I think the only GP socket I have beside these is a 7mm 3/8 I bought for ford coil packs.

GP is good stuff. not sure if i have any of their swivels, but i've been happy with other impact sockets of theirs. i was going to send you a link to the craftsman set, but it appears their metric-only swivel impact set isn't available right now on the site. they use the same ball-style swivel as armstrong (same sockets, different labeling, much cheaper) which makes them narrower and probably more durable than other brands. they have a combo SAE/mm set for just under $300, although i'm guessing you could find discount codes to bring that down. http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-16-pc-easy-read-swivel-impact-socket/p-00915360000P?prdNo=12

the craftsman metric only set is around the same price..but is only 10-18. no 19 is a real bummer. the 8/9 i usually find it easier to use 1/4, so don't mind their omission.

btw, i'm right up the road in upper marlboro :)

I have used their 1/2 swivels on oilfield truck and trailers for the last year. They get used hard, especially 15/16 and 1 1/8. Haven't had a failure yet. I have even had to put an adapter and use a 3/4 gun with them without fail.

GP IMO makes excellent impact sockets and you wont regret the purchase. Only ****** part is they use that damn laser etching which is cheap and wears off. Though theirs seems to hold up a little better, but maybe thats just my imagination.

I have gp swivels. All socket but 3/8 sae. I have 1/2, metric 3/8 and 1/4. I have not broke a single one. Pro use. Dang good for the money. I take off fasteners that others rounded. I am happy with gp stuff.

I don't know about the swivels, but I've been using a set of GP 3/8 drive, deep metric impacts for about 2 years. Excellent quality. As good as my SO impacts, for way less $$.

My dealer said he's only warranted one, an 18mm some turkey used a 3/4 gun on and busted the pin. 99% of the time I use a swivel at the end of a long extension while doing trans work, so the get used all day every day but not really super abusive. They look exactly like the old style snap on swivel, the collared style.
I've heard GP was good, I'm glad I got them now.

I have various sets of GP and I'm very happy with them. I have the 1/4" drive master set that have the swivels and they work great, have used the 3/8" adapter when I needed more torque than my 1/4" air ratchet would do, no issues. Granted I don't use every day like you all, when I do, they sometimes get used near abuse.

It is my go to even with hand use, as they are just a nice socket.

They grip great, even with some of the dirty and rusted bolt heads I've used them on.

I also agree with the etching and dread the day it wears off.

It is my plan to fill out a complete set someday with GP.

My swivels had been hammered on by my IR 2135ti max with no extentions on alignment and brake caliper bracket bolts that the gun would not take off. I let it hammer for a minute before I get out the breaker bar, so I have no problems recomending them to anyone. My 3/8s have not seen heavy use, but they take all that my 2115 ti gun can give as well. I only have 1 snap on impact socket, (not a swivel either) so I cant give a fair comparison of truck brands. I guess not needing them (truck brands) though could be a endorsment in itself.

I have the 9748 set, been a good set for 2 years.Includes a torx bit and 2 hex socket sets and a set of 1/2 drive metric deepwells in metric lately.I am supposed to get a set of their torx sockets, the external style I bought at an Auto Value tech show in Grand Rapids,Mi a couple weeks ago. They are great on their warranty, broke three of their torx bits and replacements the next day.Includes an impact grade 1/4 drive extension the pin broke for the locking mechanism.I only had one defective GP so far,a 3" 1/4 drive impact grade extension bar that would not hold a socket and replaced under warranty with no problems at all.Overall, great impact sockets for less money.

I lost some of my receipts. I have numerous GP sets incl 3/8 deep/shallow metric universals- never broken one when using for its intended purpose- doing stupid stuff involving reducers- anything will snap

I get my gp warrantied at acme tools. I dont know how big of a company they are. You can also call gp . I have not liked their hex bits or torx near as much as the sockets. I break them when the going gets tough. The only one that does not work for me at all is the t-55. In all fairness, only snap on has. I live in a rusty area filled with chevy pickups.........some years used t-55 for the break caliper bolts and they rust weld in. The gp wont take what my impact dishes out, the snap on takes my long breaker bar with my 300 lbs *** hanging on it!
