Grills in your garage?

Good afternoon GJ.

I got a new grill from the in-laws. Its stainless steel.

Anywho, I really had no plans on storing a grill in my garage, but I'm not sure I want it outside.

What have all of you done with yours?

P.S. - I live in Ohio, so I might get away with having it outside April-Nov. and store it in the winter months.

Why store it in the winter months? We use ours year round, no matter what the outside temps are.

Ours sits on a deck with a cover on it.

I've got a few grills outside year round, two charcoal and two gas. The big gas Weber gets a cover, the other gas is for the shop and the charcoal grills get abused. No rust on the Weber or the charcoal grills, can't say the same for the other.

Outside, w/cover supplied by the manufacturer of the grill.

Snow/Ice destroys everything around here. Don't want it to ruin the grill.

Also, It's stands on 2 wheels, and 2 legs. Do you have it fastened to the ground somehow? I know we get some pretty wicked winds up on our hill.

Sorry, I meant I would "store" it in the garage.

I just didn't want a big grill taking up precious garage space, which many of you can appreciate I'm sure! So I thought if I could leave it outside year round, I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Thanks for the help all!

I grill in the garage all the time with the door closed if it is especially cold out. The CO is just a bonus - save money on beer that way! Frying turkeys in the basement is another favorite of mine.

JK I do store my grill on the back patio with a cover. I did replace the cover last year after 10 years with the old one. It was so cracked and worn it was practically useless. New covers aren't cheap. My Weber cover was $50!

We get plenty of ice and snow and my stainless steel grill sits out in it all the time. Light it in the winter, and in a few minutes all the ice and snow is gone. I don't like to store propane tanks indoors.

Ditto with what a lot of the other posters have said. I'm in western WV, so my weather can't be much different from yours in Youngstown, OH. I leave my stainless steel grill on the deck year-round with the factory vinyl cover on it. It's been there 3 years with no problems. I've got a lot of stuff in my garage, but my grill isn't going to be one of them!

I'm in Alaska... use my grill year round... 40 below? feel like a rare steak? head on over to my place, it's probably almost done... lol.... thing is, I'm actually serious.... it gets used a LOT....
and it's called stainless steel for a reason.... just throw a decent cover on it and you're good to go.... no reason to lug it inside for the winter IMO....

OK! That settles it. It's going outside.

Just need to buy a cover.

Wife just bought me the HF 45" Toolbox for my Bday, so needless to say, we need more room in the garage! :bounce:

I was thinking the same. Store a grille?..W T F??

I use the same premise as steak sauce..."a good one doesn't need it..and a bad one doesn't deserve it". Words to live by!!

I keep my Weber gas grill in my garage, generally covered. We grill year-round, so I just pull it out on the driveway in the winter. If we didn't grill all year, I'd keep it covered out on the deck, but since we do I have no interest in having to clear it off in January to use it. I do close the main valve after each use. No qualms about keeping the tank in the garage.

My Weber gas grill stays outside on my patio with a cover on it. It's attached to a line off the house that comes off my 500gal propane tank. I BBQ 12 months out of the year, but more in summer than in winter. My last three Webers have lasted about seven years each with the grates replaced once or twice.

My charcoal grill stays on the patio with a cover year round. In the winter sometimes we will grill but not all that often. I have to admit that when winter comes I go inside as much as possible. Lord I hate cold weather.

I too live in Ohio. We got a grill as a wedding gift 22 years ago. It sets out all summer under a cover & I put it in a shed in the winter. It's not stainless & it still works fine. If you don't want to give up the storage space I think that with the stainless you could leave it outside with a cover year around.

I think its illegal to store propane tanks in your garage if its connected to the house. The grill wont be a problem.

mine never leaves the back deck. Its a stainless grille from lowes i bought 5 years ago. I leave a cover on it in the winter and grille out all year long. Probably going to replace it next year.

I hope you're not serious!:shocking: I've seen too many garages and houses lost or damaged because of accidents when frying turkeys.
