Im looking to buy a larger more aggressive grinder for some a heavier project I have. I already have a 4 1/2 craftsman that has served me well but now I need something bigger. So which do you guys recommend and why. Im looking more about the size info then the brand.

I asked this a while ago. The simple answer is to get the 9".

You can always run 7" media in it. Or 9".

Since you already have the 4 1/2" go all out for the nine inch. You can always use seven inch wheels in a pinch, and the nines will burn down to that size eventually anyway. For fiber disks I have nine, seven and five inch backing plates, just keep cutting the disk down to the next size. By the time they are cut down to five they are cutting a little slow.

If you were stuck with only one machine, the seven is a little lighter and easier to handle.

the only thing stops you buying a 9 incher is the weight. if most you do is bench work, go for the bigger one. your arms can get real heavy real quickly if you do a lot of overhead and out of position grinding.

I have 8 and would suggest going with the 9. The 4 is way small for most projects anyways.

Have you considered a 14" disc sander?

In some applications they work much better than a grinder
