Grinder Mount (Does this exist?)

Here is what I would love to have. An arm mounted grinder that could be "folded" under my workbench when not in use.

I wish I could describe it better. The idea comes from something I saw a long time ago. It was for the kitchen and you mounted an appliance on it (blender, coffeemaker, mixer, etc) and when you weren't using it, you pushed it down and under the countertop into a cabinet.

I can think of a number of tools that this would work well on assuming you had a strong enough arm for it.

Anyone know of anything like this?

Maybe I could fabricate a simple slide out that would work.

Bingo! That might be the ticket. If it can hold a mixer (they're heavy), it should be ok with a smallish grinder or buffer. Also, since it doesn't come with a shelf, width should be up to me. Probably has more height clearance than I need though which might end up taking up too much space under my bench and defeat the purpose.

There was a company that made these for bench grinders and vises....I can't remember who they were, but there were a little expensive.

the system worked off two parallel arms and a spring for counterbalance on each side of the mounting plates.

Ive got an old steelcase desk that has a typewriter mount that swings into a side compartment. It is spring loaded so it helps to swing the heavy typewriter into position. Ill have to get some pics, but i thinks its similar to what you are looking for.

Several folks here are keen on using 2" trailer receiver hitches as mounts for their bench tools, vises, etc. Great idea if you have limited space.

i have them on mine and use for multi purpose (vise, bender etc) but not grinder. no reason i couldnt use for the grinder, but mines bolted to a semi's break drum instead

I've got the rev-a-shelf deal for our mixer in the kitchen. The weight would not be an issue but stability might be. Ours is the heavy-duty model and easily lifts the biggest kitchenaid mixer plus the granite slab and plywood it sits on but even when locked in place there is some play. Probably a little more than you'd want if you were trying to do fine work like sharpening........and before someone says it, yes I know the grinder is not for sharpening but you know you're going to do it.
