I now have three Craftsman block grinders. All three have the same slight vibration with the wheels removed. I am assuming this is normal for these grinders. Has anyone been successful at fully removing the vibration? I'm talking about getting them as smooth as my Wissotas. That is you can't tell they are running except for the sound.

Have you tried putting a drop gauge or a dial indicator on them to make sure the shafts aren't bent or have wobbly bearings?

Yes to both. No runout and the bearings are tight. That doesn't mean the bearings are not the source. I'm just hoping someone has run it down before to save me the time. Hopefully it isn't due to poorly balanced windings. That would be unfixable.

I have a sample size of one, but my block grinder (1/3 hp, made in 1970) is absolutely motionless when running with no wheels installed.

Have you done a full teardown and rebuild of any of these grinders?

I balanced the wheels so no change with them mounted. I have never torn down a grinder, but a number of motors. To be clear, I'm not talking about motion. I'm referring to the difference of balancing a nickel on the running grinder or not. I know that is overly fussy but I'm spoiled by a lifetime of really good machines. I eventually dumped a Delta for the same reason.
