The only things I have from there are their disposable funnels, some wheel brushes for getting in tight spokes, and their indispensable tire pressure gauge/inflator. I've never seen them discount before, and their prices are quite high in general, but they do lifetime warranty on everything and have some pretty unique things.

What, if anything, do they have worth considering during this sale?

I'd consider that enclosed oil pan thingy they have - Ryan blogged about it a few months ago. I think it holds something like 5 gallons - enough for me to change my diesel pickup and little car. I think it was about $75.

I did forget about the random orbital polisher and some compounds I have from them also.

Good tip on the oil pan - I need one that will work with my upcoming 2 post lift...tire rack would come in handy also.

not really. The only stuff I buy now is the car wash soap, the wheel cleaner, the interior cleaner, the clay, the oil and grease remover. I have tried most of his other stuff in car care and either been disappointed or simply found things that work better. Mostly from pakshak.com.

I consider Griot's to now be a polish and rags retailer.

They're kind of a boutique, but sometimes they find stuff you can't get anywhere else.

I assumed their price was going to be at the high end for the heat-triggered fire extinguishers, but they were actually the cheapest source I could find.

I've thought about getting a few. You might want to consider it.

Can't handle the truth??????????????????

Sure, just don't understand the reason behind meaningless forum posts that only serve to waste space and not actually lend anything useful to the discussion other than perhaps bloating someone's post count? :headscrat

I use their SpeedShine and glass polish. Both excellent.

I might check out the glass polish. I've been using Zaino glass polish for years and been happy with it, but didn't plan to order from there any time soon.

For glass cleaner, you should try GM glass cleaner. No joke - it's like $4/can and is the best cleaner I've ever used. I use it for my house windows. Combined with a large towel, you can clean several windows in minutes.

Good timing, I just ran out of glass cleaner and my local GM dealer hasn't sold anything all month. :)

Thanks

Haha....I buy it by the caseload and use it a LOT, both for the cars and the house. Still can't believe how quickly it gets the job done.

I use their 3" random orbital polisher in conjunction with my larger FLEX polisher and I'm very happy with it. I bought it at full price and feel it was worth it. Very handy to get in the areas your bigger polishers won't touch, like around door handles, funky hood and body curves, up the window pillars, etc.

It can handle a good amount of force for as long as I've asked it to so far.

I've bought little odds and ends from them in the past. Their waxes and polishes are amazing. But yea, the rest of the stuff is way overpriced for those of us normal people.

There is NOTHING at groits garage that can’t be found cheaper elsewhere (or an equal equivalent). Bottom line is their stuff is overpriced, and some of it is criminally overpriced. Or at least was, as I cant even afford to look at their offerings these days. I have to scratch out every nickel I spend on hobby stuff right now and it sickens me to see people too lazy to do an Internet search to get a deal.

YOU should not be using forums if you don’t want people to offer their opinions. I don’t care if you don’t like my reply, but as the other poster said it is the truth so deal with it.

I'll second (or third) the glass cleaner. I used Invisible Glass for years and then got a free bottle of the glass cleaner with an order. Blows IG away.

But I do agree, Richard is pretty proud of his stuff. Most of it (except the chemicals) is available w/o the branding for a lot less money. Depends on if that little red sticker is important to you.

Back up there, Hoss. Try reading my original post again, will ya? I asked if anyone could recommend any other products that are good to have. Nowhere did I ask "do you think Griot's is overpriced?"

Why are you wasting space and time answering something I didn't ask?

I'm all for differing opinions, but this isn't a thread for you to spout off about your hatred for Griot's or complain how you are scratching every last nickel. That *****, but I don' care about that and that wasn't the original question.

If you feel the need to rant about things not being discussed, go do it somewhere else.

I've been making very occasional purchases over the last 15 years. Car care chemicals, random orbital buffers, and what they used to call a Brake Fluid Extractor -- which is probably the most-used tool in my garage, next to my 3/8" Craftsman ratchet that I got for Christmas in 1988. The "extractor" is a bit different these days as it comes with multiple hoses and tips, which probably makes it more versatile. Awesome tool, worth every penny, and I haven't seen quite the same thing for sale anywhere else.

Been thinking about a bleeder myself. We sell them (I work for an online auto parts store, ironically) but not the ones like Griot's has. Before my daughter was born, I'd just get my wife out and ask her to pump the brakes and that would be that, but with the car up on a lift soon, that won't be practical and she isn't awake long enough to help at night when I'm working on the cars anyway :)

Their magnetic towel holder is a handy item!

I agree. But I won't buy one as it has their logo on too many exclusive red colored products. Their customer service is excellent and sometimes worth the premium for selected products. My favorite if "Bug Off" for summer longer highway driving, it makes bugs wash off easily on paint and/or clear film when the vehicle is washed again.

I have bought a bunch of stuff from griots over the years and have been overly impressed with their customer service. No questions asked, and a replacement item is sent out if you have any issues. I use alot of their fluids like the window cleaner, speed shine detailer and wheel cleaner.

While i do agree that some items are very over priced, finding another place that sells the variety of items they carry is not the easiest thing. If you are ordering multiple items from different places, you will get hit up with multiple shipping charges which will make the prices much closer. Bigger items should be shopped around, as there will be someone cheaper to get it.

A good example is the Garage utility Vac. Griots charges around $230 + extra shipping for it, when you can find it on amazon for almost $100 less.

some things are overpriced but there customer service was great for me . i bought one of the fancy tire filler's with gauge around 10 yrs ago drove over it and broke the gauge called them up they said to ship it to them and they would see if it was repairable. lo and behold 2 weeks later a brand new one appeared at my door. i bought the random orbital buffer and never enjoyed waxing and polishing as much as i did that day and the results were incredible . everyone i spoke with at our last club show was amazed at how good the black paint looked in the sun

I think his post is relevant to the thread. Esp. since your reply was open and vague enough to elicit replies about the value of Goriot in General. Replies to that effect are fair game.

Here's your post again, wherein you ask what's worth buying, given the high prices. The poster opines that nothing's worth it. You gotta be able to expect replies of all sorts to a thread you start, esp. when the reply is relevant. As for post count: that's kind of an odd way of looking at it, esp. since your several replies could be said to aim for the same.

The other thing is this: You may start the thread, but to dictate or expect to control or restrict content, esp. that which is nominally on the topic, is a bit too much. This is a community, so in a sense, the thread relies on collective input, and you should try not to get upset when the thread turns a certain way you might not like. The beauty of a message forum is that a thing starts one way, and through collective effort, can take unexpected turns, like them or not.

All that said, I bought earlier from Goriot, pre-internet, but I think post internet, there's little reason to shop there anymore. The markups on rebranded items don't appeal to me. I also think the quality has gone down (e.g. on the rebranded porter cable buffer). Whether this decline of quality can be attributed to a decline in general of mid-range gear, or as a deliberate choice for more profit, I don't know.

Use Speedshine - my favorite detailer by a large margin
You would think clay is clay but I have had the best results with theirs
Interior cleaner is the best I have used
But Wurth's is the best tar remover I have used

I use WD40 to remove tar - seriously!

I like Lexol for interior leather, but am open to whether anyone's used better.

I would say that Goriot's interior leather dressing has the edge to Lexol. I've used several diff. leather cleaners, and I've favored the Goriot's conditioner over the Lexol. That might be a product worth checking out. I wonder who the OEM is :dunno:

I just took advantage of this year's 15% off sale (and free shipping) to get the clay (finally getting into the 20th-c), Speed Shine, the white cotton detailing cloths, and some stick thing that you put micro-fiber sock-like things on to get in the nooks and crannies of your engine.

I was doing a head job and for the first four hours it was going well, and I realized I'd have to spend more than a day doing it and my wife needed the car the next day so put it all back together :( :) But I'm not a mechanic! But I did detail the engine pretty nicely with some Goriot gear.

I'm not sure that Goriot is literally 100% over-priced. I think some of the stuff is competitive with other high-end detailing gear (which might lead one to argue that it's all over priced, but the microfibers are good (much better than the auto stores or the costco), some of the detailing tools are quite clever and well-made.

I was looking for an alternative source for the detailing Q-tips made out of foam and cut at angle. Those are handy for serious concourse detailing and though not horrible overpriced, could probably be found cheaper elsewhere.
