Grip on locking pliers

Hi,

I currently own a set of Snap on (Re-branded grip on) locking pliers.

They have been great however i keep having an issue with the largest model that comes in the set (LP404)

The release lever keeps bending and going out of alignment with the rest of the body, making it nearly impossible to release them. This is the third set this has happened on.

Anyone else having this issue ?

I'm keen on the grip on ones because they are well made, here in the UK the alternatives are all made in china junk. I tried blue point and the teeth on those are soft. Made in the U.S.A isn't so easy to come across here.

I have the same exact issue I was gonna warranty then this week but if this is a common issue it might not be worth the hassle

My SO guy has changed them everytime no hassle.

Strange it only happens with the biggest set though, i've clamp the medium ones down super hard on stuff and they are still fine.

It sounds like they may have gotten a bad batch of parts on that tool.

Just warranty it and let Snap-On take it from there.

I like the Grip-on branded orange ones! Nice color, not easy to lose, warranty probably isnt as easy as Snap-On.

I ordered another set, thin low profile ones for droplink removal.

Just to follow up, got the wonky set warrantied again.

Seems a common fault, it's slop in the handles making the release lever go out of alignment. If it happens again i think i will modify the handle to eliminate the slop, machine up some shims or something.

On a side note the slim ones showed up too, they are GREAT. Get in between droplinks and shock bodys no problem.

Anyone looking for a lower-priced alternative to Grip-on may want to check out the Blackhawk locking pliers. They're made in Taiwan.

Do you have a Snap on truck? They actually don't mark those up as much as other stuff. They are reasonably priced.
I was going to buy a set. But i have a pretty complete assortment of USA made pre Irwin vise grips. Are the grip ons worth adding to the box? Is there any huge advantages to these over conventional vice grips.

The snap on(grip ons) are way better than the China irwins. Like I said before. I'm wondering if it would be worth adding to my usa (pre Irwin) set i already have.
