Grip tape for handle

Im looking for a good grip tape for my breaker bar I was using my old craftsman torque wrench today just as a breaker bar not for torque (has not been a torgue wrench for years). Anyway the plastic handle just started crumbling. I still think it can be used as a breaker bar but need to make a non slip handle for it.

Any suggestions? What kind of tape? What about that liquid tape?

Go to a skate shop and get skateboard grip tape.

I'll give hockey tape a try. I really like the handle in the custom handle thread.

i use electrical tape, sometimes that silicone repair stuff, but its not as durable

I use high voltage electrical splicing tape (the real thick stuff). It fuses to itself, and doesn't leave an adhesive mess when it gets hot.

That silicone tape is cool.

One of the reviewers for that pointed to this link instead as stronger and a longer roll for a much better value.

Hockey tape is what I use. Walmart even carries it, like $1.50 a roll.

I remember that they use to make some steering wheel wrap. The kind that you wrapped around the wheel and then a lacing to secure it. I think it would make a good handle as well. It should be long enough that you can bulk it up some if you wanted a bigger handle.

Try tennis racquet grips (for a thicker, cushioned handle) or an Overgrip (no grip enlargement, just a non-slip grip surface).

That looks pretty neat, $10 isn't ridiculous but it isn't $1.50 for hockey tape.

I have used this with great success. Comes in different colors, slick or cork-type. It's perfect on one of my hammers. The cork-type handle bar wrap provides some shock absorbtion depending on application. Durability is excellent. Price can be a little high depending on material used.

Wow! That would rip your hands apart! Especially putting a few hundred pounds of force on it. You should see what it does to Skate Shoes!


I would use Tennis Racquet Tape or Hockey Tape. I doubt it will stand up to Oil or Petroleum based products though. Plasti-Dip is pretty cool stuff.

I had seen some silicone tape on an episode of Stacey David's Gearz and tried it out.It was called ER tape and it fuses to itself immediately, easy to wrap. I had tried other silicone rubber tape but the ER tape was the quickest fusing out of all of them. We had used it on tool handles, at the bottom of tennis racket handles, even repaired a vacuum cleaner hose with it. You can check it out at their website, www.Rowe-Performance.com

I bought this stuff and used it,it doesn't last too long,it comes unraveled.
And it costs too much.
Stick to the athletic tape.

For the ER tape -I know that the surface has to be clean before you start wrapping it, any dirt or contaminants would affect the bond. but i never had any problems with the tape when I used it, it was really easy to apply and it stretched to make a really nice wrap. Another plus is by fusing to itself, did not leave any adhesive residue.

There was another product they had that was sort of like an alternate to sugru called Versimold. the plus side to that was that it was ready to use and you can mold and cure by applying heat gun to it.
