I looked at Grizzly before I bought my Craftsman that I found on Craigs List. That was my biggest turnoff was that it was made in China.

-While I agree, and prefer American myself, the simple fact is, they're not making them anymore, there's fewer of them every day, and the ones that are out there are just getting more and more worn out.

Yes, they can be refurbished, but not everyone wants to do a full rebuild before they can use it.

I had to rebuild nearly every machine in my shop, and in many, if not most cases, it would have been cheaper- and definitely faster- to just buy a new import, plug it in, and start making chips.

And since no one in the US still makes a small manual lathe, if you want new, you're stuck with an Asian import.

Doc.

Grizzly is very good about the CoO of whatever they sell. Just look in the detailed description. A lot of their machines are China, a lot is Taiwan.

Unfortunately not much mid level shop equipment is still made in the us. I've refurbished a few old pieces of iron but if you need to use it right away it's nice to get new with a warranty. At least with grizzly it's a us company and their customer service is excellent, imo.

My G1200 floor drill press that I bought in 1986 is still going strong- running the original belts.
It's drilled thousands of holes in wood and steel, most of them with bits that probably aren't the best quality (imports, garage sales, Drill Doctor regrinds, etc.)
Hell, the original light bulb lasted almost 20 years and three cross-country moves. I did replace the chuck about 10 years ago.

Thinking about a 10" lathe to replace my old 6" Atlas- it's too small and getting pretty tired. Grizzly is top of the list, especially if they continue with their market-adjusted pricing. .

I bought a griz G4003G lathe, no complaints, no issues & seems to be well built.

That G4003G is at the top of my list. I probably don't have room for one and
will end up with a 10" Grizz but I would love to have a cam lock spindle and some room for collets in the spindle bore.

I just bought a bandsaw from them based off the comments here. The box was blown open sitting on the porch when I got home. The single strip of tape on the bottom just wasn't sufficient I guess. Most of the broken pieces fell out of the bottom when I went to pick it up .

Grizzly wants me to make an itemized list with part numbers of the broken pieces.

Definitely disappointed so far.

What kind of box we talking about here? Shippers are capable of breaking just about anything

I'm more aware than most here on that topic

A single strip of tape doesn't really cut it though. And I'm not keen on providing them a parts list.

I was hoping to put it to work, not rebuild it. I just told them it's ready to be picked up for return.

Might be the problem with the shipping monkeys. I have that same problem ordering a 6 ton jack stand from NorthernTools Last month, box is torn with a wide and paws, manuals are missing. The replacement box suffered the same fate. I hand to take missing parts from Two boxes of damaged part to make one whole product and send the rest part.

I am not sure the carrier, mine was FedEx fuxkery.

I can't believe you guys think the problem here is the shipping company and not that grizzly is wanting a parts list. Swapping it out is the right answer

That's my thought. Damage was definitely a shipping issue, but that's what they have insurance for.

That *****, I can't believe they left it without someone inspecting & accepting it, that in itself is a reason they should take it back. I've had good luck with them in the past. I bought 2 bandsaws & both were well crated, good luck.

Well mine is a bit smaller. It's just a 4" bench top model. Wasn't shipped freight or anything.

Problem started when box is damaged, sure, you can blame the box is not packed well.
It would be nice if they send a replacement, yes. Otherwise getting an inventory list of missing part and a coupon for next purchase is probably the better way to go cost wise for companies. At least they are willing to work with the op. Same as the reason I didn’t get too upset with NorthernTools.

Just to add a heavier version of the 6 ton stand I got from Amazon arrived not much of an issue that was ups. Boxes still torn at least parts were not missing.

Very nice! Good selection all new , matching & with a warranty, looks like a nice shop as well.
Thank you.. when I built my shop I had a bit left in the budget so I kinda went all in and decided to just stock it. Like you said, can’t beat new and warranted. Went with the Polar option when I could. This was in 2015, it doesn't look anything like that now.. its stuffed and a mess at the moment.. lol

Just to update. The replacement saw came in, and the bottom was blown open the same way the first one was, but this one had packing paper stuffed in the box. They also ran 3 strips of nice strong tape over the top, while the bottom had the same old single strip of garbage packing tape. No apparent damage to this one. Customer service was great and easy to deal with.

I'll be testing it out this coming week.
