I have a Powermatic 66, and a Powermatic drill press; (not able to tell you about your models).

But an amusing story, a few years ago I had a tour of a cabinet shop that made some very nice furniture. I was expecting to find some very expensive machines and when I walked into their shop I was amazed to see a shop full of Grizzly machines that came from China. I talked with one of the owners and he sang much praise about the Grizzly machines and how easy it was to get parts for them.

Today things have changed and now more and more come from China. On the Rockwell back in the day they were very nice machines that should give you no problems.

Grizzly makes a very nice saw. Most of their cabinet saws are made in Taiwan just like Powermatic and Jet. Grizzly has great customer service and parts can be had easily. Do you have a serial or model number for the Rockwell dp? Some Rockwell machines are great but some are real dogs, having the model would help find out.

Grizzly is as good as it get for overseas production for the most part. I would happily stock my shop with all their equipment. Prices are good, quality is on par with Delta, Jet, and others.
If the used price is good I would jump on it.

Just purchased a Grizzly 17" bandsaw and am very happy with it. Between that experience and the reputation that Grizzly has, I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it. Check out the lumberjocks forum if you have the model number- those guys post excellent reviews.

I have a Grizzly wood lathe, cabinet shaper, two huge pedestal grinders and lots of accessories I purchased from the Muncy, PA store. I feel most of their equipment is on the high end for imported machinery, and their parts and support is top notch. I'm soon in need of a larger wood planer and Grizzly is in my top list for consideration. If you live close to one of their showrooms, it's worth the trip to check out the goodies. It's practically tool and machinery **** in the flesh.

Of course it depends on the price and condition of the equipment. Personally I would rather have an older delta unisaw and a older delta 14" drill press. That delta DP is not that great, not horrible, just not that great.

As others have mentioned, grizzly makes some really good stuff for the price.

I have a Grizzly 1023SL that is about 6 years old that I bought new. It was thier previous model before the current ones with the riving knife came out. I use it lighly in my garage as woodworking is a hobby of mine. I've never had a problem with it. The table was flat and was polished well. The fence adjusts easily and is solid when locked. It cuts well and has plenty of power. I've run 2" maple through it and it doesn't seem to care. Toss a good blade on it and I think you'd be happy. I think the only flaw on mine when I got it was a chip out of the paint on the base. I didn't care though. I don't know the age of the machine you're looking at, but some of Grizzly's much older machines don't seem like they're as high quality as their more recent offerings though. Anyways, I'm happy with mine.

Don't know about the saw but I just used my new to me Rockwell 15" drill press and I would strongly recommend it. Mine is about late sixties early seventies. They just don't build them like that any more.

In my opinion, if a person is looking to gear up a woodworking shop with new machines than Grizzly might not be a bad way to go. I guess the chiwanese machines are the new norm. But if you are going to buy a used Grizzly you may as well look around and buy a used Powermatic, Delta or Rockwell machine. The old USA machines are of a much better quality than the new Asian machines. Some may argue this but many will support this opinion as well.
