Grob Band saw score

I recently acquired this massive band saw for a mere $750.00. I estimate its age around 30 years old. Auto feed and return.

My weekend was a little productive, I have to help my friend to move a 500lbs band saw machine. My friend rented a forklift and it was just smooth job.
By the way, how's your band saw performing?

Good day everyone! I stumbled upon this thread doing a little looking around the forums. I am the supervisor of the band saw department at Grob, Inc. You did score a great saw! That is our old Cut Off saw. Judging from the pictures, it is a CO-18 model, meaning the throat would be 18". The first one was built in 1948, and the last one left our shop on 3/23/1965, with a serial number of 157. At best, your saw is almost 40 years old, but could be considerably older. As a point of reference, we still have some parts in stock for this saw if you ever do need them. Not all parts, and once they are gone we aren't making them any more, but if you do need something, feel free to look us up at www.grobinc.com and inquire. Many people loved the Cut-Off saw, our employees inclusive. We currently have 4 of them operating in our factory on a daily basis.

I would love to! I took over the band saws in December, and myself along with some of the newer guys, have been trying to get a lot of our stuff updated. One of our guys took the website on as a project, and is in the process of taking that out of the dark ages. We have our manuals now on the website (for free download) and any other information is readily available from us if anyone needs it. Trying to put the "customer" back into "Customer Service" is one of my main goals in my position. Thanks for the feedback, and keep a look out for stuff to come!

We still have a few parts for those laying around as well. Heck, we have shelves of file bands still available. I guess the market isn't too good for the machines anymore. We have a few running in the shop to break corners of flat material, and they work great for that. I can't quickly come up with a date that we stopped the production on those, but it was a looooong time ago. I know a good amount of them got converted into band saws. Basically the operator stands at the side instead of the front of the machine.

That band file could triple as a sander too, I suppose. I'm probably the only **** on earth that still uses my old hot rodded craftsman 14" with an assortment of belts as a small area band saw. Killer for tool grips, things that go 'BANG* and other small parts that make tight curves.

Mine works well as it is, as long as the cutoff is no more than 20". Seriously though, i often cut small rod and bar stock at a slight angle to get a workable piece, then proceed to cut the lengths needed. I don't see why one could not remount the guides at the needed angle for what you suggest

DoAll did make guides that turned the blade to increase the cutting length capacity......I have some of these but have never used them?

GROB also does have a 90 degree, as well as a 45 degree holder set up for our saws. It uses the bronze guides. The cutoff saw in the photos had ball bearing guides that would turn the blade.

I have a Grob saw that I am rebuilding right now. I am going to run it off a VFD built into the frame.
