Ground rods in trench?

Hey guys,

I'm wiring up my house and garage and have a question about the ground rods. I'm adding two to the house and two for the garage. Can I put them in the same trench as the feeder conduit? It is Sched 40 PVC, 18" deep. It would be convenient to drive them in alongside the pvc, but I wasn't sure if that was allowed.
Also, if I add a conduit for data cable can it be right
next to the power conduit?

Thanks,
Tony

Its ok to drive them in the same trench. You can call your local inspectors office for all your electrical questions. They are more than happy to give free help.

Bet it's not as easy as using a hammer drill to drive em in??? Drive em 8' in about 30sec. I would personally put the low voltage conduit as far from the power as reasonably possible. To eliminate any possibilities for interference. Like on opposite sides of the trench. And make sure to oversize your conduit. If your thinking 3\4" will work...use 1 1\4" you might need it later.

Hi Rock
Nope it's not good. Just went to the hall yesterday, we have about a 1/3 out of work with not much coming. Glad I am retired. How are you guys doing?

Add an extra empty conduit if you think you will expand at a later date. I would pull in a extra string when you pull your wire. This will make it easier if you pull more wire in later.
