I do a fair amount of fabrication work for local high schools. I am beginning to build a new audio mixer station for the marching band that has a lot lot of components that get plugged into 120VAC power via extension cords from the stands. It is roughly a 50” wide steel cabinet with a top like a tool box, and a component rack underneath on wheels. They want to simply mount their outlets inside the box to plug in the individual components as needed.
What are the grounding requirements for something like this? Just weld on a steel box and attach a ground wire to it that would originate from the source outlet? These sometimes get wet too, as when a sudden storm hits, or the sprinklers come on. The top cover and front/back doors will be splash resistant (which is the reason the are having me make it, their last Anvil Case type rig ended up costing them a sound board when everything got wet).
Appreciate any advice, just want to make sure I am providing a safe useable setup.
