It says "apparel footwear jewelry and home" (or similar)...so doubt it.

If you look a little further down the Q&A, the can I buy tools with this question is answered Yes a couple of times. But it is clearly stated what this coupon can be used for. I am sure they are promoting these other dept because they do not sell that well. I don't think the tool dept is included because it probably holds it's own already.

Older questions are answered YES, newer questions are answered NO.

Sounds like Groupon started answering questions before actually getting their facts straight.

I bought this groupon and took it to my local Sears last week to try and buy a couple of open stock wrenches. The cashier scanned the groupon and the register said it was not valid for those items. These were not "hot buy" or sale items or anything special, but they were declined just the same.

There is a long thread at slickdeals where many folks have reported problems with this groupon. I would be very wary with this one.

Groupon responded on their Deal Q&A webpage. The Groupon Response is the deal is good on tools but it can only be used in store and can not be used with other coupons and can not be used with shopyourway points.

Probably from people trying to use it for something other than "Apparel, Footwear, Home, and Jewelry Products"

Actually, the problem is Sears has put so many exclusions on the deal it is hard to use even in the specified categories. One person wrote:

Bought this because I had groupon bucks knowing that it was probably going to be a pain, and it sure was. I figured it would be good for buying essentials - socks, underwear, etc. Turns out all that stuff is an "everyday great value" and is excluded, so it wouldn't go through. Bought something else which successfully took the groupon by scanning and tried to return later and it wouldn't even allow for merchandise credit or do an exchange. So those of you thinking you'll get merchandise credit, it won't be so easy. The manager finally made it work so I could exchange for what I actually wanted, but definitely a pain because of all of the exclusions.

Another experience:
I just used my Groupon at Sears. This is the first time in years that I've gone past the tools and appliances and actually entered the bowels of the store. It was like walking into a store in a third world country. Many shelves were bare. There was little variety of anything. Lots of shoe styles, but very limited size options available. Virtually no employees or registers, so it took almost a half hour to get up to a register. First register, Groupon would not go through. Employee decided it was due to one item being on sale. I replaced item, got back in the 30 minute line. New item scanned at clearance price (not marked anywhere), so I was short of $20. Tried again. By this point, I really didn't care since I was literally buying anything just to use up the $20 and get out of the store. Groupon still wouldn't go through, so they manually entered a $20 coupon. After an hour and 45 minutes, I walked out with my $10 "savings" carrying mostly stuff I didn't really want.

And another:
I honestly could not find a single useful thing there in the home area. They don't carry bedroom curtains! I settled on a new shower curtain and liner, the total after tax being about $28.
Of course, the coupon didn't work right. The items did fall under the "Home" category the cashier said, and the subtotal was over $20, but still they ended up just having to give me a discount instead of using the actual coupon. Had to wait a bit for someone to override the discount.

YMMV but clearly you shouldn't expect this to work for tools, which is all we really care about here anyways
