The batts have a rigid face to them unlike wall and ceiling batts that just flop easily. They tuck up nice and tight between the floor joists. I found that cutting 5mm larger than the measurement kept them very snug.

I had prepared to strap them up, I was going to use the blue pvc pallet strapping and staple gun (even purchased the the air stapler at gasweld to do it too!) to stop them coming out, but after putting in a few packs they didn't move. We get a good bit of wind here so I figured if they don't get sucked out etc after a good breeze then they are not likely to be going anywhere, so far so good and most of them have been in for about 2 weeks so far.

There is a good bit of space underneath, the tightest part is about 2' at the front of the house and about 4' towards the back. The property slopes away from the street.

Despite having to glove, goggle and mask up to stop getting too itchy from the glass fibres, I still rate sanding gyprock prior to paint my least favorite job however

Nice shop you have Grumblebum. You are making some well thought out changes over time. Like others have said the extra kick panel storage draws are a great idea. One I've not seen before but a good way to store lesser used items.
I also like sorting screws, bolts, nuts washers and small hardware into those flat see through trays. Coming from the old system of many cans and jars of hardware this is much more efficient. I find it makes it much easier to go right to the correct tray for certain types of fasteners. Much better than digging through an old coffee can or dumping contents out just to see what I have. Keep up the good work. I'm subscribed.

Thanks for stopping by rmalkow2. Hopefully i'll get the face plates on the draws finished this weekend and post some more pics. They have freed up a whole corner cupboard now which has been put to better use. I know the feeling with the old tins and jars. So much better now just pulling out a tray and having what you need without spending an hour cursing trying to find things.

I have an older house on stumps with hardwood floors and toyed with the idea of adding the batts, but there isn't much room underneath and now that we've added underfloor ducted heating, there's even less! Still, it might be something I consider in the future, as we have thin windows, most likely no insulation in the walls, and old insulation in the roof, so every bit helps.

Thanks for looking in Anth. I'm pretty happy with the underfloor insulation so far. It's only been a few weeks but it is substantially quieter and definitely no more drafts coming up from underneath and around skirting etc. However as I've done the place up and added the extension over the years I have insulated the ceiling with R3.5 polyester batts and all the walls with R2.0 which I did while re-cladding. I think with brick/brick-veneer there are some blow in products that you can use but I do not know much about them.

In your case if the ceiling and walls are not insulated (or only partially) then all you are gaining by doing underneath IMO is draft prevention and maybe some noise reduction - but then with the old windows you will still get noise.

However if you can crawl under your floor and get on your back or sit somehow you should be ok - but it will be slow going just do a bag at a time or something otherwise you will be cursing all over the place. Also it is a good time to check any electrical circuits you have underneath before you put the batts up. The instructions say to turn off the power while working on the install. Just get your PPE on and maybe some disposable overalls if you use the glass based batts otherwise itchy itchy you will be

So today was an unplanned day at home due to the NBN installers supposedly doing the fibre feed in to our house today.

Long story short in their 0930 to 1430 work day they did one house next door.

So I guess we try again tomorrow...

Anyway, it was a nice Spring day (which I guess became an annual leave day in the end) so I sorted out some more clutter in the garage and it was ok enough to take a photo of and share Sorry they are not the best photos.

My garage is west facing and occupies the bottom half of a two story extension I added on in the last couple of years.



Box trailer I recently rebuilt and the camper is just about ready to test out.



Around to the north part of the garage is my workshop space. (the toolbox on the front of the box trailer is not part of it, it's just where I put it to get it off the floor)



On the southern wall are 5 ***** type cupboards that were on sale at some point from a hardware (don't remember which). They are 800w x 400d x 1800h and the doors are painted with chalkboard paint (I used tile and lamintate primer first to get a bond to the melamine).

Under the bench is my air compressor. This one I purchased second hand from an enginneering firm near my work back in 2009 - it wasn't big enough for them. It ran two framing guns all day long whilst building the extension.



I am not allowed to use these cupboards. It's all the kids outdoor toys/gardening/wife's craft stuff etc etc.



There is still a bit of clutter to get out of the way, but slowly slowly. The goal is to get the cars in here.

Cheers MH, originally the idea with the blackboard paint was so that when it's raining we could back the cars out and the kids could play in the garage a bit and burn off some energy (hard to do when it's full of not cars). The doors are also great for sketching out an idea and lists which I noticed you have done on the one on your garage door too.

I have a heap of jobs to get finished around the house now that the days are a bit longer and you get that extra bit out of the weekends.

Not totally garage related, but on Friday the NBN installers finally made it back and feed the fibre optic to our house. They had already tested the conduit from the pit was good back on Tuesday so no digging up the front yard which I was happy about.

Even installed it where I'd asked them

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to get a service activated on it.

This week was also a big one in that I hit 40! Can't believe it time flies.

Today was lunch with family and close friends which was great. And as a bonus they had all chipped in and topped up some garage goodies for me which I'm wrapped about.

New Makita battery drill as I've just about killed my old one the other month drilling holes for spot welds finishing off the trailer rebuild (it no longer goes in reverse), a vernier caliper (non-digital), a second Makita angle grinder so no more changing flapper discs and grinding/cutting discs every 5 minutes, a couple of extra G/C clamps, new drill bits and a set of spring compressors (so now can do the shocks in the front of wifes car).



Mini bench drill press, have a job for it already maybe might get to have a go tomorow.



Also a garage stool which I am about to test out with a cold beverage

Yes our copper lead in is overhead as well, strung from the power pole in the street. The other side of the street is all underground.

A great start thus far on my leave, enjoying every minute.

Every inch counts in a small space. I often sit in garage and mentally move things into head a lot. Wife comes out and asks "what am I doing" I say" I'm thinking" a usually comment is " here we go again " LOL

Got one of those projects you need to do before you can do a project jobs done today that I've been trying to get to for a little while. Nothing fancy but basically just some rails on my box trailer so that I can carry 8' x 4' sheets of material from the hardware.

Used up some 1" gal box tube lengths that I had.



Tested out my small drill press that I got for my birthday, works a treat. Unfortunately the drill press vise that I'd ordered for it hadn't arrived before the weekend so had to fiddle with clamps a bit.



Having some nice square holes from the press meant that I could drill the holes in the trailer frame by hand and have them straight too.





I've forgotten to take a photo after doing this bit, but I used automotive double-side tape to adhere 1" strips of the same conveyor matting that I used in my tool trolley drawers across the tops of the rails. The mat is very grippy, so perfect for helping the loads stay in place.



Then I was able to nip out and grab the 8' x 4' sheets of villaboard so that I can get stuck into finishing off the walk in wardrobe/future ensuite combo which is this weeks goal as I am off for a week doing daddy school holiday duties (which really means I probably won't get anything done ).

Also grabbed some tube endcaps whilst at the hardware and capped off the tubes.

I think this is the first work-load the trailer has done since I finished rebuilding it too

Thanks for stopping by xtremek. The garage has mainly been used to facilitate finishing jobs on the house and yard for the last few years so has certainly not been in it's best state until I joined GJ and started spending a good few evenings sorting it out a bit.

Recently I've been fixing up a Cub camper trailer and have rebuilt my box trailer.

I'll grab some pics of projects that I'd like to get started on in the next little while.

Today arrived my drill press vise that I ordered a couple of weeks ago.

It's a Dawn (Australian Brand) 75 mm vice (Unigrip), however I think this particular model has been made outside Australia now that I read the fine print, after looking into all the material before ordering I was of the impression they were made in oz.

Anyway here it is...



And had to test mount it of course...



The press itself hides nicely into this smaller cupboard. Before I got the press I was thinking about making this cupboard into a slide out shop trash can.

It's a bit awkward lifting in and out so I might look at mounting it up more permanently on the counter and move the TV to somewhere else. At least that way I can quickly punch a hole anytime I need. Then maybe go back to the slide out bin idea...

Cheers fellas, so I have succumbed to the GJ addiction. This arrived today...





It's a Dawn 100L Australian made. Needs a good cleanup and some rust scale removed from the bottom. Not sure yet if it's a repaint job or see if I can get some Dawn red from the manufacturer and just touch it up.
