Very good job on the cleat wall!

Now that you've loaded it, how do you like your spacing? Does every board have something on it? I'm asking because I'm thinking about adding one to my shed/shop/garage/workspace.

And the truck repair, well, that's what sheds are for! Well done

The wall looks great Rod. It'll be a well utilized space for sure. And it appears as though you were successful with the truck repair. That's always a good feeling when you don't have to go back in to do the job over for some reason. Enjoy the work week as best as you can.

Thanks Dan. I had to nip up that banjo bolt today as it's been dripping up under there for some reason. Pretty sure the copper gasket seated happily. Really don't wan't to have to pull it out to check...

The shop looks clean and with plenty of work space around the truck now. And a job well done servicing the truck too. Sounds like a very productive day.

Great work with the cleats. Ever since reading Jack Olsen's quote "the floor is not a shelf", I've been wanting to get absolutely everything off the floor!

The stuff on the floor has been bugging me for ages. I might install a small cleat right down the end to locate the mite saw stand on. It's off the floor but only mm so still a bit close. Thanks for dropping back in Anth.

Andy I'm pretty happy with the spacing. Not every board is loaded - need to allow for future *stuff* and all that You could probably run your lowest board at say 16" and work upto about 6 or 7' to be just above head height. Just depends on what you are thinking of hanging....

It's good to have a board lower even if you don't hang from it so that the hanger for the one above it can be supported without a packer being made to suit it.

Gap between boards ended up at 7 1/4". That is the result of the spacer being 8" on the long edge. I really don't think you would want them any closer than 6". (my boards are 3/4" thick)

Original boards were 5 1/2" wide, I ripped them in half first before doing the 45 degree rip. So they ended up between 2 1/2" - 2 5/8" wide which was good to get 2 screws into every stud.

Great work on the cleat wall! I've been wondering about doing some of that myself - particularly for storing bulky things like my engine crane and engine stand (disassembled somewhat of course) to get them out of the way when not in use. Keep us updated with how it goes. I like the extension cord hangers too.

G, the "disco" shed continues to be a source of great fun for my 8 yr old daughter over on this side of the pond...I think you'll find it a nice addition to your shed!

The cleat wall is shaping up nicely. Now you need some lights!

Nice job fixing up that oil leak. Auto/truck work is so crazy time consuming with two young ones around, but I suspect that will change a lot once they get a bit older.

Thanks Lyndon. All the lights I borrowed from work as the boss's kids did a school project or something some years ago and they have been kicking around the office clutter ever since. I did have to find out why he had a brand new mirror all unopened in a box beside his desk though.

Andrew it's working well so far. Will easily take engine stand sections if you anchor the cleats into every stud with 2 screws. I'll keep pics updates as I get more done on it.

Thanks Dennis, I've actually got the internals of a couple of old lamps that broke to use to make cleat hanger lights from with some LED bulbs in them. Just need some QST to throw them together.

GB: AWESOME PICTURES. of course nobody is stressed in that area. of all the pictures you posted there isn't any houses so no nosy neighbors, no thefts, plenty of things to do and with those views i totally understand why.

did the 5 year old's BDay party in the garage work out as planned? my kids are in their mid to late 20's now and they still remember their BDay parties. my two step sons that are in their 40's not so much. i remember when my twins were maybe 5 and since their BDay is the end of October we set up a kiddie pool and put a bale of hay inside it and filled it with candy for them and their friends to dig through. did i mention it was in the living room and that will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN cause dust from hay might still be around. the kids had a blast though. maybe the grandkids will get a hay/pool party, but it will be outside or in a rented storage unit if weather isn't great.

Dan, thanks. Your battery tester looks pretty cool. Should pay for itself in no time hopefully. Queenstown is down near the bottom of the South Island of NZ. Had I been up near Auckland I could have tried to catch Guster - but I think he was in Sydney that week perhaps.

GB, and all my dear friends down under; I thought we agreed not to show pictures of the beauty hidden in your islands. You'll be sorry when there are time shares, motels and condos surrounding the Three Sisters and Wentworth Falls. Picture that lake covered with pontoon party boats and floating islands of plastic bottles. Picture the mountainsides covered with Jeeps and caravans parked around bonfires.

I was quite careful posting out of focus, faded and poorly composed pictures of NZ and OZ. And what's up with all those discount airfares.

You folks have no idea what us American tourists can do. Have you seen what we did to that lovely tower in Pisa?

At least you haven't been showing your cute animals. If you have to show something, show a picture of a Rainbow Lorikeet or a Platypus -- we still don't believe they are real. Wait, maybe start a rumor that a Cassowary makes a great house pet.

All right, I'm just kidding but the relatively small populations on the islands means you have preserved a lot of the natural beauty. No one forgets a trip down under.

Also by accident I found my new favourite screws. Grabbed these this morning as I was low on 2" screws, but didn't realise they were "rib head" until I opened up the dish. Must say they are ****** great compared to the phillips head screws.

GB: if you like square headed screws go buy a box of torque headed ones and you won't want to buy another type if you have a choice.

good to hear your son's party was a success. the kids do seem to remember them when they get older especially the good ones like that one probably was. another option to cleaning up is renting a hotel room and having pizza like we did for our 28 year old when she was 10 or 12. of course if you get one with an elevator it's hard to keep them corralled.

All, thanks for dropping by and keeping things moving. Andy I think the spell checker got you as your post should say "Queenstown New Zealand", but stand by for some possible pics of "Queensland Australia" as I have some work up there shortly.

Drives, I'll have to check those screws out, won't get them a the local big box store I know that much.

Lately have had some work related travel out of the office and typically I take a set of tools with me which will get me out of most situations where I come into an office that needs something re-terminated, or patched correctly.

Trouble is I've just been throwing them in with the undies basically, so stuff is just a mess (not the undies - they are clean). So yesterday I nipped into the big box store and picked up a small tool tote bag to hopefully keep things together, and also a condensed set of screwdrivers so I'm not going to have to carry a near full set with me now

Will still need some refinement, and I need to add a small socket set with a few basic sizes.

And it seems to fit in the suitcase... The small red one is my personal first aid kit that basically stays with me at all times.

Also today gave the mesh bag for the mower a test out. Works great and is slightly narrower than a normal catcher so good if you have some tight spots to get into. I didn't find it was any more dusty than the vents on a normal catcher.

Also had to fill it only for the second time, so I'm getting about 3 full mows or about 2 1/4 hours to a 2 litre tank.

we get those torque headed screws at our big box stores and they work great with my little Ryobi 18v impact driver and i can't recall the last time i've stripped any. square heads are great and better than slot or phillips in my opinion, but if you hit a knot or a tough spot they will strip. for basic stuff they are really nice and almost theft proof since not many thieves carry a tool to take them out.

GB: just watched a few videos of the earthquake and tsunami and OMG there are some serious road and RR issues to clean up and rebuild. might take years for one stretch or RR and highway along the coast to ever get fixed even if it's possible after a huge landslide. this 2+ minute video shows quite a bit of damage to the roads without a lot of talking, but there are plenty of news videos.

good to hear your friends and the company you did some work for are ok, but since it's an island i bet this will impact them for months and maybe years to come.

also found your thread too far back on maybe page 7 so to maybe get you a few more views or more jokes from Andy i'm bumping it up too.

This last week I was working up in Cairns, North Queensland.

My first time there and another beautiful part of the world that I had not considered before. Starting to get pretty hot and the humidity was not too bad yet.

Had to do a couple of site visits, but I did manage to snap a pic some sugar cane harvesting whilst driving back into the city.

Saturday afternoon saw us at a clients party, and one of the guys rocked up in this 32 Ford. Was a bit busy chasing kids around to get the low down on specs, but it presented well.

Sorry guys, getting behind a bit lately as all the weekends are full of "non-garage" activities which tends to happen around this time of year.

The garage is cluttered somewhat so *hopefully* this weekend I can sneak some time to at least clean up.

Weekend just gone all I managed was to get the lawns and edges done. The edger attachment did need a new blade installed. I normally buy a couple at a time when I get these.
