C, ahh Moruya, we used to have a van down at South Head van park 1975 thru to 1985. Dad and 6 of his mates made like a wagon run at the end of the park...it was their domain for the weekend. They would go fishing and we would hit the beach. A couple of my mates are down that way. One from The 'Gong is into hot-rods and pickup trucks.

Hmmm, Narooma, you do like it quiet!

Mate just come down to Lynch's Pub and if us old farts are still awake , we'll show you quiet !!! Umm... what did I just say ??? :lol_hitti

Yeh , great part of the coast but of course probably lots of other good places in Aus. I am done with excitement , quiet works well for me. I grew up in a country town ( Canberra - but yes, it is NOT a country town now. Used to be when I was there ) , moved to Sydney for Uni (College for the US guys ) and am finally able to pretty much get away from the Big City.
It feels good.

really enjoyed reading up on the detailing adventures.

looks like the shed is getting super organised too

Thanks Ken, you have a bit more surface area to do now with the polisher on your new ride ;) Shed is slooooowly getting there.

Nice job on cleaning the ride GB. I wish I had the energy to do that.

Thanks xtremek it's looking as good as it has in a long time now. The polisher makes it damn easier than doing it by hand, I think if I can keep it maintained now it won't be so much work in future. Just that it's been out in the weather 24/7 for a number of years now was just starting to take it's toll, and apart from that I've just not had the time to spend on vehichles that I used to.

I haven't requoted the other discussions, but I will say that Moruya is a beautiful place for the 5 minutes I drove through and on the way back. Fully intend to get down there for a weekend at least soon in the camper or something.

All,

I finally got the passenger side polishing done on Sunday. Lost most of Saturday as I was at work and Sunday also got the lawns cut and edges etc done too.

Last night I started working on the external trim work, tyres and tonneau cover.

Grabbed a couple of pics this morning. I should have taken some before pics of the rear tailgate as that is a night and day difference. Can't really tell in the pic but the grey fender flares need sanding back and repainting also, the drivers side is pretty badly faded. Hopefully I'll get to catch up with my mate to arrange getting the roof fixed up tomorrow as he's been out of town.

Was going to start tonight on the chromework but I think I'm going to grab a beverage and relax instead.

The ute is coming along great GB.

Are you going to clean under your wheel arches?

Thanks Aaron, yes I normally (by that I mean back in the day before kiddies) do under the wheel arches every 5k while I'm rotating the tyres. So I'll do it as part of the next service and do some pics of my process.

hahaha dont remind me, its filthy too

hilux is gonna look a million bucks when your all done!

Thanks Ken.

Very Nice!!!!

Cheers Shorty.

Thanks for keeping tabs guys. GB.

Greg

Narooma is where Irene and I are retiring to, and we already have a few good friends living there. It's one of the most beautiful parts of the country, and all that water, between the sea, the inlet and the lake out near Mystery Bay....

Do you know Barry at the Club in the centre of town (a very very old friend - we went to school together), or his ex wife, Jane who is now married to John, the plumber over in Dalmeny?

Where did you buy in Narooma? On the flat or up the hill?

Irene and I were only talking last week about going down there on the June long weekend.

And I haven't had a message yet about when you're showing me the XFR....

Lyndon

Grumblebum- apologies if this is a hijack to your thread but I will add a car detailing comment to stay on topic ??

Wow Lyndon ,what a great choice !!

I have a house at Kianga , between Dalmeny & Narooma , have been renting it out to make ends meet so have sometimes been staying at other places on the South Coast as needed, mainly Moruya...

Finally semi-retired now ( sold my business as previously mentioned to you, but working for the new owners ) so will finally retire down there at some point , my wife has retired but I suspect she doesn't want me to be under her feet...what to do ? Oh , I know , buy a Jag !!!

Mate the car arrived today from the other side of Aus, unfortunately it arrived with a dead flat battery, the engine warning sign stays lit ...it looks awesome for its age ( like I do LOL *puke*) but ...hopefully just a software glitch , engine looks great , body great , etc .
Grumblebum - I also need to detail the emblems, they look neglected just like yours... let me know what you have learned from your refurb !

I'll second that motion. Well Greg????

Your detailing needs no comment from me Rod. As I said before, you guys really make me look very Lazy( not Andy or Lyndon). I actually hand washed the Tacoma last weekend and was thinking all the time " Way too much work, how do those blokes do it all the time":dunno::lol:

The "ute" as you mates call it is looking great GB. I still haven't finished full detail on my Camaro I started over a month ago. It is exhausting. And if you drive it everyday it just gets dirty again. I highly recommend CG stuff if you can get it there in Aussie. I have not be disappointed with any of their stuff.

Lol, Dan you look after that Tacoma now you hear. But in your defense I think it would be at least a 1/3 rd bigger than the Hilux so a bit more work for you to wash. :dunno:

Cheers Bret, wifies Camry will be the next target once my truck is happy. Actually I should have checked CG here the other night. Just checked now and found these guys that have their products locally. Their pricing looks pretty good also.

http://www.chemguys.com.au/

However I might have to use up the few items that arrived yesterday first ;) A few more German detailing products to try, Nextzett. The Mint spray product is an Australian brand - same as my orbital polisher.

Oh and that little shaft on the right is an 80mm extension shaft for the polisher I have, so you can extend the buffer head to get access to tight spots.

View media item 70386
My problem now is that the drawer for the detailing stuff is kinda full and I had to take out the microfibre tub that was in the draw. It's also hard to see what is what now. So I might have to consider doing something cabinet wise like you have just done.

View media item 70387
A contact of mine is going to get his body guy to do my roof next week hopefully so looking forward to getting that fixed up, he is also going to redo the fender flares.

Thanks all for dropping by. Greg you can get that thread going anytime, where are the Jag pics ?

Cheers GB.

Sorry to hijack the thread like that......

But - Greg -the XF looks great. Nice colour. It must be one of the first that were referred to as SVO's not XFR's.....

Rod

Where did you get those brushes from? :dunno:

I've been looking for a set for ages.

And what brand DA polisher did you get? I can't make up my mind.

And how are you enjoying BS1.0? At least the ute will look good for when you come up after you've finished the book....... :3gears:

Cool. You are off and going. A thread is a relief from kids, it does take a little work but once you start you are fine.

Hi mate, hijack away it's all relative at the end of the day.

So yes I got the brushes from carcareproducts.com.au BUT also look at chemguys.com.au as they have all the US Chemical Guys stuff in Aussie including boar hair brushes etc.

The polisher is again from carcareproducts. It's the DAS6 (500 Watt) and I purchased it in this kit: https://www.carcareproducts.com.au/product/car_care_products/ro_polisher_das6_kit_plus

I chose that one as it was described as good for the beginner as I've never used an electric polisher on a car before. They have plenty there to choose from so you might find something to match your experience level. Some of them get damn expensive you'd think they leave a gold streak behind when you use them. There is the DAS6-Pro which is 850 Watt.

Haven't quite got BS1.0 as yet, I thought that we were going to be near Canberra visiting wifies friends soon and I would escape the combination of 5 screaming kids and nip down and catch Terrick for a couple of hours. But not sure that will happen soon so might have to revert to the post plan so I don't hold up the chain too much. Better confirm that tonight actually so I can let Terrick know.

Lyndon, I think GB would of got the brushes from car care products. I have the same set. I may be wrong. He also got the polisher from car care products also.

Yep :)

Thanks for dropping in.

A few hours of QST in on Saturday. Mainly needed to get wifies car cleaned as it was pretty filthy on the outside (her work parking is in town where a heap of construction is going on so it gets all the airbourne **** dropped on it)..anyway gave some of the new nextzett products a go.

View media item 70486
Tried out the wheel cleaner first, you can see there is a bit of brake dust and crud stuck in here which never really removed with just washing before.

View media item 70487
Sprayed on and let it sit for a few minutes, it turns purple as it does it's magic.

View media item 70488
Then agitated with a wheel brush to help it along.

View media item 70489
And rinsed off, night and day difference really. A couple of wheels needed a second hit in a couple of areas but they all came up pretty good. Only negative on this product is that it's pretty smelly.

View media item 70490
Also gave it a wash with the 2 bucket method and I also created (well probably not) the double mit method. Worked very well with 2 mits on.

View media item 70491
My truck gets dropped off tomorrow to have a few days of getting the roof repaired from all the rust spots. Then in hopefully another week or so the Camry will have it's cosmetic blemishes removed and there will be 2 clean cars back in the stable.

As much as I like the cooler Autumn weather, I would love if the light stayed on for a couple more hours. Oh well.

Well done GB. Detailing the cars does get addictive. It's amazing washing a car is so different to what it use to be. Just using 1 bucket and a sponge.

Lol thanks, I actually threw out all the old sponges the other day. Still lots to do before they are back to where I want them. But should go better after their trips to the body shop.

Thanks for dropping in Jeff, I haven't really noticed a snorkel noise as such - tend to notice roof rack whistle a little bit if anything when I have them on. Wish we could cruise around at 75 or more here, posted limit will max out at 68 here (110 kph) in most of the country.

Next time I go for a drive on the freeway I'll listen better and confirm.

Cheers GB

Yep , the last free place on earth, and the very best part of Australia ...

Very nice part of the world indeed Coolabah - my father-in-law grew up in Moruya and still has some family there.

It's about 10 years since we were there last I think. :headscrat

Edit- Oh, BTW... Where do I sign the "Coolabah, start a thread" petition?

...and now back to our regular programming.

GB, do a run from Helensburgh to Five Islands road at 7am, should be able to get away with 140 no worries, just follow the Heggies trucks!!

Terrick

Now that makes me laugh. I don't think even the Heggies Compliance Officer would let them get away with that anymore. Besides - I think Heggies was long ago absorbed into the Bulkhaul Group (which is part of the Scott's group)......

But ask GB how many of the stone chips on the ute came from Heggies trucks roaring past - halfway onto the verge, probably in the left hand lane (ask me how I know).

The front of my Falcon looks the same for the same reason.

And also, he could have got away with much higher than 140 if he'd tried Picton Road, about 6 years ago, in the lawless days. I saw speeds starting with a 2 several (errrrr - many....) times.

I was always in a hurry because of something one of my deeekhead drivers had done, somewhere. And I generally had 2 pho...... (no - I'd better not say that - kids, and others could be looking in . . . . :willy_nil ).

Ha, now that is interesting. A story for you...

Back in Dec 96 I started out of uni as the network administrator for Heggies Bulkhaul. They then purchased Chemtrans and I spent a good chunk of time integrating networks and all that with my current boss who poached me from them back in 99. He was a consultant that I learnt a lot from and still work for today (although more on this later). We continued as consultants seeing them listing on the exchange and becoming a public company. Sometime after that (201x's) Scotts transport (as Lyndon mentions below) came in to play but with the politics involved we were slowly pushed out (through no fault of our own just they had issues with the manager we reported to). We still manage IT stuff for the original family that owned Bulk Haul in other coal mining and other transport related businesses.

There is a bit more to this that Terrick and Lyndon would understand but that is a beer time conversation (wine for Lyndon).

Now if you reckon you could get that run in from Helensburgh to 5 islands now I wish you luck. Even at 0530 the boys are now out and about in that strip of road. Many years ago in a trip to Wagga there was a good stint in the 140 range, the Truck was right at home there.

I just caught up on the last few pages of the thread.

Great detailing work GB.

Thanks BB, I'm up at Rainbow Beach in QLD tonight trying to keep up on the threads too, just get too far behind if I miss a week lol. Home tomorrow :)

Yes did Greg commit ?, I saw a Jag photo but that was it.

I remember the falcon when you just got it too Lyndon. And the use of 2 thingies...anyway

Yep coal chips in my windscreen are still there. And all from oncoming trucks. (I never sit behind any truck and I always drive off onto the verge when trucks are oncoming). My roof has been fixed by my mate this last week so hopefully I'll get to pick it up on Saturday and report in.

I did my HR (heavy ridgid) truck license with the Heggies compliance guy many many years ago as he was also a licensed Transport authority assessor. Unfortunately he passed from a heart attack, I had a lot of respect for him.

Small world ?

GB, what you have done in regards to your detailing puts me to shame big time..

...........................

It's actually been fun mr 1/2 cup, good thinking time with the polisher in hand. Still a bit to do but we'll see how she looks when I get it back hopefully on Saturday. My standard will certainly not be high enough to meet model A show and shine levels though I dare say :bounce:

Thanks fellas GB.

Small world hey guys. I was a fiter/machinist apprentice at AIS '80 till '85. Used to be a roadie for a band that played the Yachet club, etc. Did the Crown Street Cowboy on friday nights and down to the sandtrap to meet up with everyone. We lost 6 first years in the first 6 months due to road accidents. What a waste of life!

Well after another week away working in South East Queensland, got some excellent QFT in yesterday..

Visited the Campbelltown Steam and Machinery Museum open day.

http://www.csmm.com.au/

Totally awesome day, lots of tractors and steam implements driving around and working. Here are some pics (sorry if it breaks your internet).

Beautifully restored little tractor. Was talking to the fellas in this shed for a while. This one was for sale and he needed about $7500 for it. Couple of retired mates, they basically take on a tractor project or 2 a year, only taking on what they can complete. Then they sell and move onto the next one.

So much here, they have another open day in October so we'll be sure to add it to the calendar.

Cheers GB :beer2:

Wow looking through those pictures I thought it was the Florida Flywheelers. Cool place. We don't have the military vehicles though.

GB, I don't post here often, but I do spend some time lurking!
Love the pics from the Museum! I'll have to o visit our own "Western Development Museum" again some time and post up some pics.
Good job on the detailing! As 1/2 Cup says, you put me to shame too!

Cheers!

GB: love all the museum pics. one in there looked pretty familiar cause my Gramps was a logger and he owned a small business and that picture of what might look like a crane was similar to what he called a DONKEY that would pull the fresh cut logs down to the landing. then it would load the logs on his trucks. lotsa noise and lotsa power and great to hang around while Gramps was babysitting me so to speak when i was maybe 5-10 years old.

here's a couple of his logging trucks i've posted in a couple places on GJ so you might have seen them, but we did have some pretty big trees here in the Pacific NW back in the 50's and before WWII.

cheers
