What a wide array of machinery and vehicles at that event. Thanks for posting the pictures of some very nice and some unique vehicles. I agree that little speedster/racer caught my eye as well. The red Farmall Cub that was for sale is a great little tractor. A good friend of mine has one same model but not that pretty. But it still serves him well for garden work in the spring/summer and snow plowing in the winter.

I would be the first to admit that you guys ALL do more than me on a daily basis . I might get my act together and post the photos of my shed build, I might then post the 3 photos of what I have acheived since then , .... and then I would need to wake everyone up !
BUT... Goshdarn, maybe I need to create a thread where anyone can drop by for a snooze, see that nothing has changed and that is a good, comforting sort of Karma....

Having said that , GB has catapulted me back into enjoying detailing all of my cars . Currently caring for the leather in my Jag and STi. Joy and fun all 'round. GB STILL has not told us his best emblem rescue hints , unless I missed a post or 3 .

Lyndon I’ll catch up re: Motorex (anyone else interested in meeting up please sing out). I think the Sunday will be the day for me to visit.

So on Thursday evening just passed I finally got my truck back. Pretty much two weeks for what really should have been only 3 days max, but won’t bore you with the side story (not exciting anyway) and I was away for a week so at least the truck wasn’t sitting at the airport parking in the rain absorbing water through windshield leak.

So to recap the roof looked like this before.

And now it looks like this. Much better. I also dry fitted the new roofline drip strips but when I went to do the permanent fit I found what was left of my tube of Sikaflex 227 had fully dried up, so will need to grab another tomorrow and probably finish that tomorrow night now.

So I was getting it washed and back in order but I started by trying to clean out around the window seal a bit since it was full of body dust and **** along with years of slime. Used a line trimmer strip to stick in behind and then followed it with the air blower. I thought this is what may be causing the water leak into the footwell if there was a blockage. Lots of **** came out. It seems these are designed to have water run down them from the roof line and drip out in the engine bay. Did all that and gave it a wash (2 bucket, 2 mitt method) but it seems there is still ingress somewhere as a small drip still in the footwell, so I’ll be arranging a windscreen guy next under my supervision so I can clean and inspect before a new one goes in (it’s got plenty of chips in it anyway).

During washing I got one of the new detailing brushes out and got stuck into the badges. Turns out the adhesive on these is just about shot anyway and one I was able to remove gently by hand. Ended up getting out some 20lb fishing line and the rest easily came off. Which left me with this.

So I don’t really think I would have got these clean if they were left on. A bit more elbow grease with the bug/tar remover saw it like this.

Then this evening after 45 mins of clay bar and 1 beer it looks like this. You can see the etching into the paint, so I’ll source some 3M type adhesive tape and reinstall them. At least I can see where they go easily.

So slowly getting there. Will probably go and grab the canopy from my parents place tomorrow and give it a clean and get that back on.

I feel your pain on windshield leaking. The adhesive on my Camaro windshield came lose a couple of years ago and took me a month to figure out where the water was coming from. Ended up having to have the windshield replaced.

X2 on replacing the windshield. Or, if you can't afford that, just replace the windscreen. Those little leaks are insidious in the long run.

The windscreens are not all that expensive. My mechanic mate and has a guy that does them so I'll follow that up during the week so the leak can be resolved. There is a chance that my insurance will cover the windscreen so will look into it.

Ideally it would have been done while they did the roof (I did suggest it), but many don't think logically at times.

Anyway, another beer and an hour and a bit and the passenger (left) side is done. Etching not as bad but still enough for me to realign the badge later.

GB: love all the museum pics. one in there looked pretty familiar cause my Gramps was a logger and he owned a small business and that picture of what might look like a crane was similar to what he called a DONKEY that would pull the fresh cut logs down to the landing. then it would load the logs on his trucks. lotsa noise and lotsa power and great to hang around while Gramps was babysitting me so to speak when i was maybe 5-10 years old.

here's a couple of his logging trucks i've posted in a couple places on GJ so you might have seen them, but we did have some pretty big trees here in the Pacific NW back in the 50's and before WWII.

So a bit of QFT this morning. We've been starting to do some bike track rides as the kids are getting more confident on their bikes now. Beautiful day for it.

Where we park to unload the bikes from my truck, there were a few nice holdens out from one of the Sydney clubs. Snapped a quick couple of pics.

The creamy coloured FX should be what we get my dad's ones paintwork looking like (although his is an FJ Special like the green and red ones). They were all beautifully done. I was chatting to the owner of the green one for a few mins. He said it was a rusted shell when he got it around 13 years ago and took a lot of effort to source all the parts.

With my car the first thing I did was take all the badges off. Makes it easier for washing and me personally I don't like them.
Nice old Holdens. My first car was a 1973 LJ Torana. Easy to work on. I wish I still had that car.

Aaron, I'm with you. Way back when, we "nosed and decked" our cars, requiring holes to be filled and paint to be restored. Today's glue-on emblems are so much easier. Our Pontiac dealership proudly glued their chrome advertisement on the back of our brand new '68 GTO. I ripped it off the moment I got home. Only thing I dislike more than manufacturer badges are dealership badges (unless they pay me to drive around with it).

Thanks Aaron, your old torana would have been a treat if you still had it. I still have my old type 3 fastback VW, but I think it's too far gone now rust wise to bring back. It would be ok for doner parts though. If only I'd covered it up out of the weather a bit.

Now that I've taken the badges off I'm coming around to the cleaner look. From a distance it looks good but close up you can see some paint damage where the letters of the badge were. So I think I'll clean them up and find some decent adhesive to put them back on.

Ditto bob on the dealer stuff. When my truck was new also first thing I did was take the dealer number plate surrounds off.

One of my pet peeves is that if you go and get tyres done they sneak on their ****** stickers on your rear window while you are waiting. Something else I then need to take off.

Anyway...

We specified multiple times when we got my wife's car not to install them and had it noted on the sale contract. Guess what was on the car when we picked it up Guess what came off the day we got it home

Well yesterday I called up a windscreen guy as referenced by one of my mechanic mates. Very professional and they turned up today at my office no worries on time just after lunch today. Pretty happy with that.

Had to hang around and watch how these things are removed and installed. Mainly curious as to the underlying condition of the seals to see if that was the leak source. After some seaching the guys didn't feel that there were any windscreen seal leaks as such. They primered up some small rust spots and cleaned up before installing a new windscreen and associated rubbers which look to be a better fit than the original factory ones anyway. Certainly plenty of the sikaflex caulking on there which was interesting to watch.

So this is what a new windscreen with no chips in it looks like. Exciting stuff.

Even if the windscreen wasn't at fault it was not expensive and at least I know the seals are good now.

I've just spent a bit of time with the torch sniffing around trying to put the clues together. Some of the forums suggest the firewall gromet where the main cable loom comes into the cab is at fault, I can't really tell until I get the hose on it again. Also have taken the A pillar cover off inside and it looks good there.

Time permitting in the morning I'll get the hose going and see what I can discover. Failing that I'll remove the lower dash section and have a clearer view underneath.

Would be nice not to lose time chasing the issue, but better now than a rust issue later.

No real updates lately, been away again for work this week down 1/2 Cups way for a fews days to cold, wet and windy Melbourne.

Still haven't had a chance to chase the water leak into my truck and while it was sitting at the airport this week it had a little water in it when I got back last night in the middle of a massive thunderstorm over Sydney. Luckily it was late enough to miss the peak traffic chaos getting home.

So remember almost a year ago I replaced the battery in my truck and did some testing with the battery tester ? Well guess what. That battery is dead and it's not even 12 months yet.

Went to leave the office tonight and she won't start. Tried jumpering from the second battery in my truck but it is not big enough in capacity to crank it either (so will have to solve that for next time). Ended up borrowing one of the Century batteries off the 100kVA generator in the office to get me going.

Put my tester on it when I got home and no wonder it won't crank. Can't see in that pic but the red X light is shining brighty. That is showing under half it's rated cranking capacity of 730 CCA.

That *****, I get annoyed when a battery only lasts a 2 or 3 years - there was a time when I'd consistently get 4 or 5 in a daily driver.

GB, do you have a Lightbar switch with the red and green buttons? We have 3 here and we found that they were tracking in high moisture days and would be turning the light bar on and off by themselves and causing a flat or low battery. My son discovered it one evening when having a smoke near our hoist. He said that DW's 12" 168w LED bar was flashing every 5 minutes or so. Just something to check for. We have been using those "Intimidaters" batteries and get about 4 to 5 years on the work vehicles with a pretty reliable, except when someone leaves the leds work lights on in the back all weekend.

Just a quick update...this morning with some daylight I ran the test unit on the alternator and guess what big red X. ******. Was only putting out 8 volts or something not very useful, so I had basically just run that battery down. After a full night on the charge it was happy.

So picked up a new alternator late morning and had it back in operation by just after 1pm. Putting out 14 odd volts again and big green tick on the tester after that. I'll see what needs repairing on the old unit and keep it as a spare. 300,000k from the factory unit can't be too bad I guess.

Terrick, no mate no led bars on it at this stage.

300k miles is about twice the design intent usually so it did ok. Hop it can be a good spare.
