Grundfos pump to cistern wiring question - cistern

Hello,. Have a deep well 220v grundfos pump with the sa-spm6 control box installed in the well house.

How do I put a Brody or other float switch in to stop the flow from a wiring perspective. This well is flowing into a 1100 gallon tank. The float is 220v and is configurable to either open a circuit or to close it (sump pump setup or cistern setup).

Questions? Thoughts?

Assuming it is rated for the HP of the pump just switch one or both lines before the controller.

There's an installation manual for that controller here: http://www.burdickandburdick.com/grundfos lit/CB/L-CB-TL-002 0114.pdf It appears there are different wiring configurations, depending on the pump horsepower.

Without knowing anything about the float switch specifications, it *may* be horsepower rated for switching power to your well pump motor but even if it is, personally I'd use the float switch to control a relay that in turn switches power to the pump.

Need more info.

A look at the above manual shows different models depending on HP of pump as well as sandard and deluxe models in each HP class.

What is the HP rating on the pump and motor starter?

Do you have a standard model or deluxe model?

What is the model number of the float switch?

What is the HP rating on the float switch?

Does it have a HP rating that is at least the same as the pump?

You would wire it in place of a pressure switch. Location of where to wire it depends on answers to the above- either in line before the starter or on one side of the coil if you have a deluxe starter with a contactor.

I will get the pump details. It is is a 1.5 HP pump at 240.

The Brody switch has a RATED CURRENT of 16 AMPS.

So what you are proposing is to just take.. say the red line...and put in series?

What I don't know is what happens to a 220v pump when...in my simple mind....you take of one leg of power....making it 110 while the float is in the off position. Did my question make sense?

.

You gave the pump details- 1.5HP.

Now we need the starter details- standard or deluxe. This effects how and where you wire the float switch.

Also need float switch HP rating.

Rated current means nothing when it comes to motor circuits.

Get the HP rating or model number of the float switch.

If the float switch is rated for the HP AND you have a standard starter, then yes you would wire the float switch in series with the line in BEFORE the starter.

Does the float switch have 2 or 4 wires?

The float is 3 wires but only 2 is used.

Standard on the starter.71zB2O31A0L._AC_SL1500_.jpg51Q3m8wHRML._AC_SL1500_.jpegMVIMG_20180517_170448.jpeg

Well IF, the float switch is rated for 1.5HP or more, then connect black and blue in series with one of the 120v hot legs BEFORE it connects to the pump starter.
