Hi Everyone,

I’ve been admiring all of your garages and getting inspiration and figured I’d start a thread of my own. It won’t be anywhere near as extravagant as some but hopefully I’ll make progress. Never enough time in a day to get what I want accomplished. Between numerous expensive/time consuming hobbies it’s also hard to find time to get work done on my place.

So I bought this house and moved in September of 2014. I would have liked a bigger garage but I figure it’s a good start as a first house. It was great coming to a real garage, the house I rented before just had a big work area but no large opening, I had to wheel my motorcycles in through a regular door.

The garage I got now is what they call a 2 car…what I consider a very tight 2 car. Basically you can only park 2 cars in there if you hardly have anything else. Not my case.

Here’s the old place I rented. It was a nice large space and great for working on motorcycles, but I could not pull a car in.

And here’s where I recently moved into before all the **** was piled up in there!

Unfortunately the ceilings are pretty low, and I have to deal with the furnace and water heater but oh well, could be worse right?
And here comes the junk!

As you can see, the back portion of the garage was bare studs. I threw some insulation batts up in the gaps for now to help hold some heat in.
Had some cheap shelving units we decided we weren’t going to use in the house so I made them into two parts, cut some French cleats, and mounted them on the wall.

You can see them in the upper center and upper right here.

I also added some bike hooks to get those off the ground and a shelf above my toolbox for all my motorcycle helmets. I added some hooks underneath to hang my gloves.

Looks awesome! Seems you've already gotten a lot of the clutter moved out of the way in a (relatively) short time! The 240 looks nice. I'm assuming there may be a GT-R in the future?
Where are you located?

Thank you Doug! Yes, a GT-R is in the future, coming in a post or so, stay tuned!
Oh the clutter is a constant battle, I have so much junk between all my hobbies. Plan for next spring/summer is to build a 10x12 shed on a cement slab that's already out back to at least house some motorcycles.

I replaced the incandescent fixtures with 2 4' T8 Fixtures. What a difference! I should have done that first thing! I'm only using two and it's night and day! Here's a little comparison between the two.

And done:

I also made some tracks to hold Storage bins, I made enough for a total of 6 bins right now, still have some more wood to make more when I need it

So now we come to the title of this garage. I've been after a Nissan Skyline GT-R for a few years now, finally imported one.
The first real project IN the garage.

Got the engine/trans and wanted to do a little freshening up.

After:

Here's the shell the day I unloaded it

And here it is in the garage

Well, this was a giant let down. I was expecting a real gtr... Not a Silvia..

Jim, did you scroll down to the bottom? I updated, didn't mean to mislead you with my 240SX, that's just my commuter

I'm lost.. There's a gtr somewhere in this thread? Or you plan to buy one someday?

Nice garage and stuff it's filled with. We seem to share the same hobbies: wakeboarding, motors, cars, mountainbikes and children :). It's tough to keep that all up right? You're not into climbing? ;)

Its a Japanese GTR. Not a new American GTR

Quoted for truth. The shell that he has a picture of unloading is a GT-R. It's right hand drive, if you look closely. The RB26 is a monster engine that came in GT-R's prior to the introduction of the first (Skyline) GT-R to America. Badass cars and I'm jealous of OP's! :3gears:

As others have posted below, it's what I consider the iconic GT-R, what it all started with.

Right on! Gets hard trying to divide time up between all of them. Nope, not into climbing, used to do a little but I had a metal plate in my left arm (now removed) that kind of hindered that.

Hahaha, wow! Obviously he's not a fast and furious fan.

Welcome, cool garage and i'm digging your project.

Thanks dubber! I'm very envious of your clean and tidy garage!

Nice ride. Cant wait to watch the build.
Thank you

Thank you guys for helping clarify this. I guess I should have stated it's not the new GTR, it's the Skyline GT-R!

Doug, sorry forgot to answer earlier. GT-R is now in the thread. I'm located up in the Pacific Northwest, Washington State.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the REAL GT-R show up. I also have plans to import one someday.

looks like you imported it in pieces? This helps with the process?

Yes, currently no way to legally import a complete one unless it's 25 years or older. This one just missed it, this is a '90. About 6 years ago I sold my streetbike to get the money to import one but that deal fell through. So it's been a long process for me. I still don't think reality has completely set in. Almost every morning when I wake up, I look into the garage to make sure it's still there.

So here's where I put the other cabinets, fit great beside the water heater.
Had to cut down the countertops with the tools I had.

This one is a couple weeks ago when I first fired up the Skyline

And my two babies outside

My original plan was to sell my 240SX once I got the Skyline, now I'm unsure about that as I've had it for over 7 years now. I have a Honda Civic that's my commuter but it recently started overheating and haven't had a chance to look into it yet. I used to commute 150 miles a day for work. Now it's down to around 50-60 miles so I feel like I don't really need a dedicated commuter car anymore. We'll see

Love the GT-R. Can you tell us a bit more about the importation process? I know that now the earliest of the R32s are now hitting the 25yr mark so can be imported with much less difficulty, but the idea that all you had to do to import a less-than-25yr old car was separate out the motor does not sound right. Is it really that simple?

And if you could do it with a sub 25 yr old R32, would the same process work with an R34?

^ should be the same. As far as the government/ regulations are concerned, anything under 25 years old is the enemy. I'll be curious to hear as well though, I would love to be able to have myself a Skyline of any age!

Wow that was quite the commute! The 240 would be an awesome daily car as you can still through the back end out once and a while to have some fun! When i was 19 my cousin had one, an absolute blast. Couldn't even image the GT-R.

You guys should move to Canada, we only have to wait 15 years!

So cars that are 25 years or older you can import complete, just have to have all your paperwork in order and such. I haven't even tried registering my car yet, still trying to decide which route to go. In June it'll hit the 25 year mark. Technically yes, you could bring it over in pieces, but as far as titling it after it comes over, that's another story. I wish it were easier.

Yes, the gov't likes to deem silly things illegal in my eyes. Now that some of the R32 Skylines are legal, and others getting closer everyday, the prices are going up in Japan.

Yea, I did that commute for 2 years in the 240 before I bought the Honda. It's just shy of 250k miles and still going strong on original engine/******. I definitely enjoy driving it a lot more than my Civic. But 37mpg vs 24ish mpg factors in too.

Oh trust me, I've thought about moving to Canada when I was younger so I could get one. haha

Good start on the garage. I like the Skyline, AND I see a GSXR in there :D

Thank you.
Yeah, the bikes are '08 GSX-R 600, '05 DRZ400SM(currently with dirt setup on), '03 CRF450R Supermoto, and an '88 Ninja 250 project that my brother gave to me.

The CRF is currently in the living room on a stand missing wheels. Bought a new set of wheels that I'm currently converting to tubeless and installing a new front caliper!

Digging the storage bin ceiling holders. I may have to use that in my detached garage.
Looking forward to seeing the garage come together.

Do it! Really quick and easy. These fit just barely when my garage door is in the up position.

The original Godzilla, awesome to see.

Nice to see another RB on here.
Just checked out yours, I'm jealous of your R34!

He has a real GTR... The R32 looks straight
Unfortunately it was damaged during loading in Japan, so the driver's side isn't so good right now. Door and quarter panel took the hit, I've got a new door to go on and will get a bodyshop to fix the quarter and repaint. It's also got a little ding on the passenger front fender wheel arch so I'll get that fixed at the same time too.

Glad to finally see some real Japanese car enthusiasts and their garages here!
Thanks, just clicked over to yours. Nice FD! I've always been a fan of those

Very nice love to get a skyline one day but the right hand drive would really screw with me.

It's really not that bad, biggest thing for me is getting used to looking up to your left for the rearview.

I am not sure what part of WA you are in, But if you need body work / paint done. Hit up Kenny at ProCo Autobody. Tell him Kyo a Member of HR.net sent you.

Teaser of some of his work.

Clean 240sx, don't see many clean ones around any more. If your not already check out the pnwn forum. I have not been very active on there the last few years not since I sold my stock S13 coupe to Wilkerson. But it is a great place for Nissan enthusiast to hang out / learn and grab parts. ( I hope it is okay for me to recommend another forum on Garagejournal, if not sorry admins.)

Nice R32 !! If I had the cash ( unlikely to happen any time soon. lol ) I would love a original GTR (think 1969-ish / hakosuka / KPGC-10 /ect.). One 4dr Hako floated around the greater Seattle area for a while when it came up for sale as a shell I almost bought it but wanted a 2dr. Last I heard it now lives out in Colorado, I regret not jumping on it when I had the chance.

Wait till June. As long as you have the de registration paper work from the last owner in japan as well as the import paperwork in hand. registration and Tittling a 25yr old import is not to hard here in WA. Especially if like me you live in a county with no emissions. One less issue to deal with.

Any Track plans for the R32?

Unfortunately that shop is a bit far, otherwise I'd check it out, I appreciate the recommendation.
I would love to have a Hakosuka as well but man they sure are pricey!
Yeah, I'm kind of taken aback when people tell me how clean it is, but then I look around and see all the busted up ones. The only major thing is the passenger fender isn't paint matched, it's more of a semi-gloss vs the rest of the car being gloss. Never felt like I had the money to get it sprayed. I think if it was on the driver's side it would bother me a lot more!

Yep, luckily no emissions for me so I'm hoping it'll be fairly painless. I figure a little over 6 months isn't too bad of a wait considering I've been waiting for the car for like 6 years. Eventually I'd like to get some track time in. I think that would be a BLAST!

Not too much to report from the garage. I've been working a ton lately and in any spare time, I've been working on converting my Supermoto wheels to tubeless.

At my old place I had this tire changing stand mounted to a sheet of plywood. I'd like to put some anchors in the concrete to where I can easily set it up or take it down to store. Any ideas?

Those bolts, nuts, and washers are just sitting there right now and I've just been standing on it when I'm changing tires.
I picked a few of these up but it looks like I need the special gun to set them in the concrete.
