GU24 Bulbs

I did a quick search but didn't really see much info on this. I'm wondering what the deal is with these GU24 base bulbs. I just bought a ceiling fan and it requires this type of bulb and came with two CFL's. I have been upgrading my bulbs to LED's and found a Cree bulb that has wonderful light output and color and am using them throughout the house. The bulbs that came with my fan are an atrocious warm yellow color and I cannot stand them. I bought a GU24 to Edison adapter and now have found my Cree bulbs are too big to fit into the fixture.

The selection of GU24 base bulbs out there *****, and virtually non-existent when it comes to LED's. Do you guys think GU24 is a fad that will soon fade away, or will it soon be the new norm and manufacturers just don't offer much yet? It's looking like the only option to get exactly what I want is to tear the fan apart and fab some new brackets for the bulbs which will hopefully allow room for the adapter and slightly larger Cree LEDs.

The reason for GU24 is so that you don't put an incandescent bulb in the fixture. I believe this is due to some EnergyStar and also California state requirements.

I agree, it blows goats that you want to use an even more efficient yet less objectionable light source and can't. I'd have expected some GU24 base LEDs to be readily available (including some with a decently high CRI, as AFAIK a 90+ CRI is a California requirement for certain certifications) but that doesn't seem to have happened.

Ah, that makes sense about the reason for them. Seems logical although frustrating for the time being. Thanks for that info.

I realize they are available, I did see some online (like the ones you posted) but the general availability isn't that good compared to standard LED offerings. And specifically the Cree bulbs that I've come to love - now I want all the bulbs in the house to be this same exact color, at $7ea the price is fantastic, and they're even available locally at HD.

I do wonder though how that bulb compares to the Cree, just not sure if I want to spend $50 just to find out.

Could you remove the GU24 connector from the light fixture and replace it with a standard bulb socket?
