Common sense tells me after dropping this 30A Square D breaker and cracking the switch, that it's junk.

I guess, out of curiosity, is there any of you guys that would even use it ?

It might work ?
I would not throw it way until new one is secured..........there’s another thread on a very large shortage of new breakers.

while it could just be the plastic part is broke, I would never use it, incase it was "damaged" Fortunately, I have a large number of QO breakers in the garage including spare 30's, so I would just pull one of them out and use, but I know that is not normal.

I have a demo QO breaker with a clear side and a hole in it, allows you to see the functionality, or put a pencil and trip the bimetal strip. (like the picture above shows) They're fairly robust but not worth the risk.

It's already in the trash can.

As I typed my original post, I thought if it clicked, it probably be ok. Once I typed the first paragraph, I realized I know better and wondered if anyone would consider using for themselves.

The internals may be okay but I would tell a homeowner to have it replaced if we went on an electrical call at work and saw it in the box.

Good deal. And, I think you are a fireman so keeping this breaker would have been a really bad thing.

I think Bert & I are twins! [emoji16]
When I throw something out it's REAL trash!
At the very least I'd take it apart saving the spring, any screws, etc.
You never know when you may need something! [emoji38]

The main box in my garage is a Square D, QO. The sub-panel this was for is a Square D QO. The house has a, you guessed it, Square D QO.

If I absolutely need to rob a breaker for some reason, I have a few places to find one if the need arises at an off hour.

As a licensed firesafety inspector, fire service instructor, and firefighter/paramedic, (46+ years since beginning, retired) I have a collection of things I've acquired during a career in the fire service. This makes an excellent teaching tool, to provide in-service instruction to the troops. Electrical hacks are a frequent thing to-see in the field, especially after a structure fire.
