My A/C is about 14 years old (Mfg. Bryant). I have two outside condensers. Working OK but I'm thinking about proactively replacing it this winter. A company named Guettl has been advertising here quite a bit lately with some apparently good discounts. I have never heard of this make of A/C.
Any one familiar with Guettl A/C? Any recommendations for any other makes? How does Bryant stack up?

Not a brand. They're a HVAC service company. Bryant is a Carrier brand. Most "discounts" are based on grossly inflated prices.

I worked in the HVAC contracting business for 20 years. Although we didn't do residential work, we regularly used residential size equipment on smaller commercial jobs. I recall a couple of the local residential clowns regularly advertising an $800 discount off the price of a $3000 gas furnace. Equipment price only, installation extra. So, they were offering to sell you a furnace for $2200 that I could buy for less than $700. Not a similar furnace, but the same make and model number.

If I was looking to have a system replaced today, I'd immediately write off the ones who engage in heavy advertising and claim to give big discounts. Contractors who do good work at fair prices don't need to advertise or make bogus price claims to stay busy. You have to check around and find out who in your area fits that description, and you'll typically find their prices are about the same as the "discounted" prices of the serial advertisers.

Thanks for the info. I kind of thought that Guettl might not be a mfg, but they advertise (on the local radio station) about how they sell Guettl A/C systems and make it sound like its their own brand of A/C. Think I'll stay away. Anyway I'm always suspect about 'discounts' too.

Thanks for the heads up and advice, is there a particular brand of AC unit that you would recommend?

Goettl (if that's what the OP was asking about) used to make stuff, pretty bare bones (and nothing invested in appearance) but they were pretty solid performers. Only problem was getting certain parts. Only their stiff would work unless you reworked the whole control package. But overall I liked them. They were centered in the Phoenix area so were kinda semi-local.
Then some years ago (2008) they sold off to ARS/RescueRooter as a subsidiary. Having been founded in the late 30's perhaps the descendants wanted to change direction?
Just discovered that since then they have been through the "bought and sold dance" several times. I've heard their ads on the radio as well but don't have any first hand experience with the current iteration of the company.

The installing contractor is more important than the brand. The higher the efficiency over 17 seer+ the sharper the service people need to be.

Goettl is most definitely a brand. Was based in AZ since the 50s my wife’s grandfather spent most of his career working there. They primarily made heat pumps and gas packs for roof top mounting.
They do have a full line up now, they seem to have a decent reputation since it was bought out some years ago.
That said, I bought a Trane (American Standard) with the dual climat-tuff (sp?) compressors and variable speed fans. I will never go back to average stuff after this one.

WAS a brand. They haven't manufactured anything since 2007, and the current ownership was not associated with the company when they were manufacturing.
