I was going through some of my larger wrenches to clean and came across this 2 5/8 open end wrench stamped "for gun retainer nut". I wasn't able to find anything out about it online. Any ideas on what type of gun it went to or good places to check? Thanks.20170430_183517.jpg20170430_183353.jpg20170430_183556.jpg

My hunch is the nut had to be on some sort of tripod or traverse and elevation device that a gun mounted to, but it's pretty big, so the tripod and gun would have been pretty big as well. That would fit with a military theme where they would specify all the tools to service an item like that are delivered with it.

The biggest weapon systems I've handled were M2 .50cal machine guns, and Mark 19 grenade launching machine guns, and they didn't have any hardware on them nearly that big. I'd guess that's getting into the anti-aircraft gun size stuff....maybe something mounted on a ship?

Could be off a ray gun, but I always thought they used a 2 1/2 inch retainer nut. But I do notice that this one seems to be modified by grinding it a little for bigger nuts.
