My house is surrounded with white pines that drop lots of needles.

I bought the really cheap (under $2 for 20 ft cheap!) black plastic mesh guards from HD years ago and put them on my house....I have a huge oak tree in the front yard and it drops tons of leaves and nuts every year. These things actually worked fine for years, but I did find the gutters had filled up with "dirt", stuff that had broken down over the years and filled the gutters to the top!

So bottom line, they did work, but they have to be removed periodically and the gutters cleaned out.

This stuff......

I also bought one of these for $4 to scoop out the ****, and it works surprisingly well.....

I'm plannin to replace my gutters with Costco LeafGuard seamless gutters. I got a two-stories home and climibing 20ft up gets old. Hopefully it won't poke a large hole in my wallet.

If you have medium-to-large leaves, this will work fine.

If you have fir or cedar trees, or deciduous trees with very small leaves (locust, cough cough), stuff will still get into those.

For my house, the initial quote for LeafGuard (not through Costco, however) was 10x the cost of standard replacement seamless gutters. After several rounds of price decreases, it finally got down to the 'out-the-door' price of 5x standard gutter cost. I passed.

YMMV

They are not worth it. Around here, spinner seeds from trees get trapped in them and must be picked out one by one, as brushing them won't remove them.

I'd rather not have them so I can just clean them out the gutters and make sure water is flowing well.

My mom's house in Roseville, California had huge gutters, and it does not rain as heavily there as here in KC, but I cannot find those big ones for sale anywhere around here.....

You can see them in this pic, and on the house next door.....
