I've just returned from the Home & Garden Show, where I was introduced to the latest improvement in the gutter guard, leaf protector, leaf guard, gutter helmet, etc. family of products: Gutter Stuff (www.gutterstuff.com)

This "stuff " is a molded polyether foam filter; very porous. It comes in 4' lengths with a semi-triangular cross-section. It fits snugly into your existing gutters and presents a barrier against any solids, that are larger than the "shingle grit" on your roof. Water flows right through as the foam is probably 90% open space.

This "Gutter Stuff" looks like a great idea to me! It's $8/foot installed or $6/foot DIY. 25 year guarantee.

Is anyone familiar with this product? Comments?

I hate cleaning my gutters as it is. I can't imagine having to remove all of these to clean under them. And yes, theoretically, you would have to clean less, but since shingle rocks and other small debris can still get through, you'd still have to clean at least once I year, I would think.

In the warmer climates, looks like it might be ok, but I never seen the words "cold, ice or snow" mentioned, so assume it's just a southern thing. Worth checking out!

They do make a comment about preventing ice dams, but I don't see how they could prevent the water from freezing inside...

We have the "gutter guards" on our house, and while they do filter out the stuff large than a buffalo, they still don't stop the gutters from being clogged, which is their nominal reason for existing.

The problem is that the small stuff still gets in somehow through the very small holes, gells up and eventually hardens into an embolus that can only be removed by hand. Don't ask how I know this- you already know.

My house may be an outlier because it has a fair amount of trees nearby. But I doubt it. At another home show (doubtless not the same one the original posted attended) I saw a flyer from a roofing company referring to these- their assessment was much the same as mine: better then nothing, but clearly not a complete solution, and possibly not worth the effort. They said they sold them if the buyers insisted, but really didn't think they were much help.

Every year we pay someone to come and clean out the gutters. They probably charge us more because they have to remove the guards that should keep me from having to call them in the first place....(for the record, I'm wayyy too old (or is it too wise?) to climb up on a three story ladder to clean gutters).

New to the forum.. to all.

Yes, I've used/instaled this "Stuff". And, it gets an "A" rating from me.

Why...cheap compared to other solutions, keeps everything out of gutters (even pine needles), easily a DYI project, good in winter because its black, and ice melts off of it, and accumulated leafs/etc will wash off the gutters without you having to get on a ladder.

Biggest draw back is when large storms hit...water dosn't have time to soak into the foam, so it "rushes off" over the gutters.

Hope that helps...
