If it has a tailgate see if the tailgate will fold over onto the deck (or come off easily) and then strap them down with a cargo strap. Put some 2x4 dunnage under one portion and that way the cargo strap will clench it down with some tension.

Not gutters but I brought home 6 or so 20 ft 3/4 in pvc pipes in my explorer. Duck taped together with one end sticking out in front of the car a bit and resting on the right hand outside mirror arm, through the rt hand window and out the back lift window with a red flag attached. Did drive carefully.

Got an extension ladder?

I moved a 20’ piece of PVC trim with my 6’ bed Dakota by strapping my ladder down to the bed, putting the trim on it, and strapping the trim down. Put a flag on the back, and drive carefully on the way home.

In all seriousness, I tape them together, hang a HF moving blanket over the tailgate, bind them down gently with a bungee, and go, slowly. Though sometimes I just stick them in the car, with the lid open.
Yes in all seriousness, I was thinking taped tog for more rigidity and bungee with a towel or as said a moving blanket. The extra 2’ could go in front over the hitch area, to be sure you have at least a 2’ tongue?

I carry 10 foot stuff on my 8 foot trailer all the time. And my tailgate doesn't lay flat on the trailer. If it is only 10 foot, and I only have a few, I just pile them up right in the middle because the tongue sticks out over 3 feet and I don't have to worry about turning too tightly. If I have a bunch, I'll angle them on top of the tailgate and strap them all down. They only overhang the tailgate a foot or so, so that isn't a height problem. 12 foot stuff, I do the same. Anything longer, I lay the tailgate down even though it won't lay flat and cantilever it off the back. I've even carried some 16 for deck boards this way, hanging them 3 foot off the front and 5 foot off the back. I took back roads for that.

For 10 foot gutters, shrink wrap them together, lay them on the trailer, strap them down and go.

But better yet, get someone to come make continuous gutters on-site.

I went and got some 12' lumber this afternoon, but I only had a 6.5' truck bed. Wasn't sure what to do, as I couldn't get any to stick out the front...

The kid helping load didn't see the humour

I haul 12ft stuff all the time. My F one fiddy also has the 6 1/2' bed and not the mall crawler 5.5 that most come with nowadays. Dumbest concept ever.
12' is easy , just prop it up on the tailgate to gain height and length (about a foot or close) of the bed. Not much sticks out maybe 4ft?
And it's high enough up that if someone did get close or rear end you they would not even be close to the lumber.
I have done 14' on top of the 10' or 12ft stuff to give it support.
Any longer than 14' and I just take the 20ft trailer.
I would not even hesitate to put 10ft in an 8ft trailer.

Haha. I saw I guy just yesterday that was loading some gutters at HD into a Tacoma with a short bed and a toolbox in the back.
Made me think of this thread.

Strap down OP and send it.

Really?

It never occurred to me to haul material this way...

If your thinking about doing DIY gutters and your runs are longer than 10', I would highly recommend getting a seamless gutter guy out. DIY jobs with all those joints will sag and you'll be cursing when it's right above a basement window. My job involves working around gutters and either those look plasticy with all the clips and/or they start falling apart and sagging when confronted with any substantial weight.

This. Also even white gutters will expand and contract making seams impossible to keep water tight.
I went down that road once.
I know that wasn't your question but think about it.

I have never moved Gutters, but when I had a very small car (Fiat 600D), I used to carry 5 Meter lengths of water pipe by hanging them under the car and tied to both the Front and Rear Bumpers.

My 1965 Fiat had an advertised 27 screaming Horsepower from 727 Cubic Centimeters. On a Cross Country trip in ‘65 it squeezed 42 miles out of a gallon of 39 cent Regular Gasoline.
