hey guys. just thought i would let you guys know about a little problem that i had with my heater in my garage. it is one of those little red heaters that are 4800w and 220v and is called a construction heater. they come in other colors as well cause i had the same one before and it was almond colored. they come in orange too i think.
anyway, i am currently on my 4th one cause all the others have failed one way or another. on my last one i came home from holidays only to find my garage cold in the dead of winter. i checked the breaker and saw that it had tripped so thought to myself, time for a new heater. ordered it up and went to change it a couple of days later and noticed some black blobs on the floor. turns out it was the element from in the heater. it had literally melted and poured out onto the floor. lucky for me i decided to move my garbage can from under there or i would not have had a house to come home to. i asked if this was normal and the people i talked to said that it could be! :wtf:
all my other heaters i had eventually stayed stuck on and i would have to play with the thermostat to get it to shut off. finally i put in a real thermo on the wall to control it but the heaters are still junk.
then later i find out that the heaters are not approved by my insurance company. if a fire broke out and they found out i had that heater.....guess what? no insurance. i phoned a few other insurance places and they all said the same thing! holly ****! little did i know.
turns out a person needs a GX rated heater to be covered. not sure what the rating is but i dont care. i know what heater i am going to get now. over a dozen guys i know have since bought the same heater i am getting because we have all had similar problems with the heaters. in the heater mfg. defense, it says right on the box not for continuous use.
all insurance companies i phoned said that they are know to stay stuck on and shoot sparks out the front grills.
for those of you who already know this great, but i have to share this so i can prevent a bad thing from happening to someone.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR HEATERS if you have one that fits the description.
thanks for you time and sorry for the long post
clarence
