so the other day when i noticed the chinese raised panels, i had a look around the industrial/clearance area, and they had a stack of these GW 1/4 drive standard sets for 70% off which included

1 ratchet 60 tooth
1 driver handle
2 extensions
9 sockets 3/16" - 1/2"

for $12.99

not an exceptional price, but i figured what the hell. ill go grab a premium kit(free) while im here, and make a GW 84t 1/4" ratchet, as i already have the other two drive sizes. keep the 60t as a back up. thats an easy/cheap way to get an 84t if you have a sears outlet nearby.

heres the set and the kit.

I'd be willing to buy one from you if you'd want to get some more. I don't have a sears outlet near me and that GW kit is a good deal for the ratchet.

you ask which ever associate seems the easiest to persuade at your local sears, if you may buy a rebuild kit for your x/x drive premium ratchet. 9 times out 10 attempts, you will walk out with a rebuild kit. a couple of those times, they will charge you $0.01 for them, and if you get the right associate, usually the guy that rebuilds the ratchets, sometimes he will just hand you the rebuild, and say "have a nice day"

just gotta ask...

all my gearwrench ratchets are 84t....

hmmm... that's nice your Sears store people are so nice... i highly doubt that will ever happen in my area; they hire the worst people ever. but, knowing what you just mentioned, when i'm out of town on work, i'm going to try that at other Sears stores.

have you compared the 84T gears from the CM premium to the 88T Matco rebuild kits? If so, other than the 4 teeth difference, does one feel smoother than the other?

i feel no real difference in smoothness other than the tooth count smoothness between any of them really. im sure they are all made to the same or similar specs. the GW ratchet bodies are chinese or taiwan depending on when and where you get them, and the premium kits are USA made, probably right next to the matco kits.

also, my sears people arent any nicer than any other place ive been. you just gotta talk to them. ask who rebuilds the ratchets, because you have a question about a particular ratchet you have or something similar. if you think about it, its really no different than you bringing your ratchet in and them rebuilding it. they lose a kit, and dont get a ratchet body to keep for warranty. they ring up the refurbished sticker in the kit, which rings up for a penny. any associate that understands this concept should have no issue allowing you to take the kit and "rebuilding the ratchet at home"

hell, ill get you some, if you pay shipping.
