My lumber supplier recommended 5/8" Glasroc or Densglas sheathing for the exterior walls of my new garage (as opposed to OSB). It appears to be a special type of gypsum, sandwiched between layers of fibreglass.
I see a lot of residential and commercial construction guys are using it around here, especially in new sub-divisions where the houses are packed together like sardines.
The lumber guy said to use the same nails as you would for OSB (2-3/8 ring shank). But I checked the manufacturers spec sheet and it says to use either screws or 1-3/4" hot dipped galvanized nails with 7/16" heads which sound like roofing nails to me. I have a Bostich coil roofing nailer, but coil nails of that size and type don't seem to be commonly available here. Most places only have 1-1/4 coil nails and electro-galvanized, not hot dipped.
Anyone use this stuff before, and if so, how do you recommend fastening it?
Thanks
