Anyone got a source for the left-hand thread bolt which holds the links on either side of the jaws?

Wonder why it has to be a LH thread, since it doesn't rotate, but there you have it.

I've done a fairly extensive on-line and phone search with no success. Seems H.K.Porter was bought up in the Cooper Tools conglomerate and they aren't helpful on parts for the older designs.

Thanks for the suggestion, and it was one step closer than I was before, but Hastings didn't seem to have repair parts. I went through their on line catalog and then called their support desk. Nice guy, but the gist of it seemed to be public utilities have so much money, they order the new tools by the gross, but small repair parts aren't worth their trouble.

Unless you are trying for a true to original restoration, I would just drill out the threads and replace the bolts with new high shear hardened ones, either tapped in or with nuts..

LH bolts aren't all that special or hard to find. McMaster will probably have something that will work.

Yes, already looked there. McM have full-threaded LH cap screws in Grade 8 for $10.58 each, plus shipping and handling, so figure $20 delivered.

The original cap screw is partial threaded, having a shoulder where the thrust takes place. No more than I'd be using it, unlikely the full-threads would be compressed enough to cause a problem.

Do you have a fastenal near you. Probably same price as McM but if you can avoid shipping it's a plus.
