Got the furnace cleaned out, BN air filter, fuel oil filter and nozzle. Next I gotta get a spare belt for the blower.....looking forward to another energy efficient winter! (relatively) lol

Got the spiders and the bird feathers out of the make-up air intake/fan on our forced-air propane furnace. Ran the operational checks (including isolating the various limit switches and such) and checking the programmer for the proper codes. Vacuumed out all of the air filters (as I do annually) rather than replacing them: very little detritus there.

We live in a very rural area and I have every spare part for the unit except a heat exchanger and blower wheel, and I can diagnose those failures and replace parts as needed.

It has been in service for 7 years and I hope to see another 10 years out of it.

Fingers crossed.

Jim

My fall ritual is the annual HRV cleaning (two). Remove heat exchanger core, soak in Simple Green solution for 3 hours, rinse well and let dry overnight. Vacuum and wash the HRV air filters. Vacuum the inside of each HRV when the core is out. How in the heck do spiders make such large webs INSIDE an HRV? The ingenuity of the critters is amazing.

We've got geothermal heat, so fall time means switching the thermostats to heat, nothing more.
