dutchgray, any chance of posting a pic of your power hacksaw? I for one would love to see it!

Sure, not a very good picture but you get the idea

I keep mine set on the forward stroke. Finesse I can achieve with the force applied. Like Dutch', I prefer the traditional style of hacksaw, specifically Eclipse hacksaws. They just have a balance & weight which suits me.

Plus those frames are adjustable so you can use 10" blades, which can be found much more cheaply than the common 12" but will still do most work.

I have been cutting on the pull for a long time, to me it makes more sense.
I found that pushing was harder and would tend to bind the blade. If you push
the force tends to want to bend the blade, if you pull the force wants to straiten
the blade.

I would assume this would occur with a cheaper quality or fatigued hacksaw frame. OR perhaps not enough blade tension?

I always push.
Hired a former electrician, converting to industrial mechanic.
I seen his hacksaw and laughed at him cause he had pull cutting.
He tried cutting conduit with push. He said its to hard to cut conduit on push.
Maybe he just dosent know how to use a hacksaw.
After all he is an electrician.
They work either way, just personel preference. For woodworking a blade can be much thinner as it does nor buckle when pulled as opposed to pushed. The Japanese are master woodworkers with their pull saws. They are gaining popularity in the West. I try to not laugh at prople. It is embarrasing if they are proved to be right.

Looking good. :)

I'm trying to decide whether to keep or sell this one at the mo'. It's killing my free space, and access to my cabinets. :D

I still have this one to finish off & use if I do, (once I finish it).

Well you only need one power hacksaw Fretters, the small ones seem to sell well, the big ones just sit on Ebay, unless they are really cheap like mine was. I will admit its total overkill for my needs and takes up more room than I would like and is a pain to move.

The big ones look **** enough to counter those downsides though, don't they. :D I got that large one quite cheap too, but it did need a lot of work to get it looking like that. Still need to repair, (or fabricate a new one), the motor mount plates pivot bracket, and sort the drive pulley. The vice needs a new bronze nut too.

Funnily enough, those are both 6" machines. :D

Well it runs on the VFD so next job is to get it properly wired and mounted and sort start stop controls as well as the arm up stop which isn't currently connected and needs the missing lever making, then replace the coolant pipe that broke off.
