I think maybe a screw and a cap of some kind to retain spare blades in the frame tube. You reckon?
If so it will be one of the few in my collection with extra blade storage space.

Update... I found a picture of another saw like it on the 'net and the missing piece matches the handle so I will try to make it and find the proper size screw.

While I love to use a lot of old tools, the hacksaw really benefits from a stiff, high tension frame like on my modern Lenox hacksaw... That's what I reach for when making a big cut.

That sounds good, unfortunately I never have found a hacksaw that could put a decent tension on the blade so just stuck with that old one. I hardly use mine it just hangs by the bench vice convenient for small stuff for the last 25 years since I bought a 9" 240 volt angle grinder, so that's what I reach for now for a big cut!!:lol_hitti

I am going to build a new display board(s) for my hacksaw collection to go in the newly reorganized garage/man cave. I have a pretty big collection of Popular Mechanics and similar magazines dating back to the 30s. I WILL NOT cut up my magazines but will make copies of any ads for hacksaws that I can find to use on the display board background. If anyone can direct or link me to other hacksaw ads or artwork I can use, I would appreciate it much. Thanks.

Here are some hacksaw images that I’ve accumulated over time. You may find some of them interesting. The last shot is my go to user hacksaw.

Slim pikin's today. Rainy day so no flea markets here today. I went to a local trading post/used appliance store. I only scored a couple of saws, nothing to get too excited about. One is a Chinese, Lotus branded and one a Craftsman similar to one I just got the other day, but a different color combo.

These are the ones in my collection, so far, that I want to hang on my display board. I'm trying to fit them all on a single 4x8 sheet.

This arrived in the mail today from an eBay seller. How many chances do you get to buy a NOS Union hacksaw shown in a 1944 WW2 toolset image?

Here's 3 of my coolest hacksaws. A Millers Falls ruby handle (since sold), a Wards Master amber handle, and an oldie German wooden handle that I restored.

Nice find, d42jeep, I noticed that the seller had about 12 of those to start.....quite the trove for NOS material. I suppose he unearthed the attic storage of a long closed hardware store.

I was made aware of them by a fellow WW2 tool collector. I mentioned them to another collector and so on. I noticed that the price has gone up since I got mine.

I think the handle is just broken, with a piece missing. Guess I'll eventually use it for a pattern and make a new one.

I picked up three more ,so far, today. One is this small M. Klein & Sons. Something, including a threaded part is missing.
Anybody got one like it? I'd like to know what's missing.[/QUOTE

Pretty useless without the tension parts that make the blade tight. There were many versions of this saw from different manufacturers. Mine was a Craftsman. I may still have it but no idea where it is.

The top tube of these were the size needed to hold extra blades.

I can't find the picture again that I found before or I would post it or link to it. Anyone got a saw like it and will a post a pic, or three? No big deal if it's not useable as-is. Not like I don't have a hacksaw, or thirty, if I need one. I think I paid a dollar for it.
From looking at the pic I found earlier I thought the missing part was a cap and a screw that retained the spare blades in the slot. Oh well.

Been a while but I picked up a few more saws today, including a couple maybe actually vintage. They came from a pawn shop where all the hand tools were 50% off today.

I found this Atkins saw on Saturday. It uses threads within the handle to tension the blade. I was unable to find an Atkins catalog showing this model.

its like a virus. You think you have the hammer virus under control, then it mutates into a hacksaw virus and the hammer vaccine does no good.

Here are my two hacksaw finds today. The one I’m most happy with is the U.S.A. marked Union hacksaw which is shown in WW2 toolsets. The other is a =Craftsman= with a Circle I manufacturer’s marking.

Here’s what I have. No vintage WWII, but one that hasn’t been seen yet in this thread. From the top, a no name “Made In the USA”, a Craftsman and a Miller’s Falls #1414.

I found one of my favorite brands of old hacksaws today due to the logo. I cleaned it up and treated it to a new blade.

Hey Tom, I finally remembered to get you some pics of my hack saw.
I don't remember where I got this one but I've been using it for at least twenty years.
Yeah, I'm that old - I have to keep reminding myself.
The little cap you're wondering about is blade storage and I actually have put blades in there but the rattle annoys me.

Joe

Also, you'll notice the tension screw runs the length of the frame. Yours either has the boss broken off above the handle or is designed to use a shorter screw. I included the pic of the model number for comparison.

Here is my latest and possibly greatest hand hacksaw, although my personal favorite is my Goodell Pratt bench hacksaw which is unfortunately on a bench too cluttered to photograph well right now but you get the idea. In addition to the hand hacksaw affliction I am also infected with the power hacksaw virus. Looking for 12 inch power hacksaw blades for my Craftsman daily driver and my 1912 Armstrong Blum Marvel #1.

I found a handle tensioned wood handle hacksaw from a company I hadn’t run across before. Consolidated Tool Works Inc. New York USA. From what little I could find on the Internet, they were around in the ‘20s.

After a long dry spell of no new finds, buying only duplicates or better examples of what I already have, I finally found a "new" one.
As you can see in the pic the pat date is June 21,1921. I thought that was neat because our Model T is a 1921. It was built May 28.

The only find of my searches of local Tahoe garage sales this morning was this wood handled Forsberg hacksaw with the cool Whale logo.
