My heat pump requires a 30 amp HACR rated circuit breaker. I have a Siemens circuit breaker box Model P1212L1125CU.

I cannot find Siemens circuit breakers for this that say HACR. I do have a GE model THQL2130 that says HACR that fits right in but the panel says use of other circuit breakers voids warranty. Is this really an issue? Does anyone know the equivalent Siemens circuit breaker and where to buy.

That is an older marking no longer required by code starting with NEC 2005

The HACR rating just means its designed for use with motors typically found in heating ventilation and air conditioning equipment.

Awhile back it was discovered that all breakers are suitable for use with the above equipment.

HACR type –This marking indicates the circuit breaker is suitable for use with the group motor installations typically found in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. TheNEC2005 no longer has this marking requirement. The electrical industry determined that circuit breakers are considered suitable for use with such equipment without any further testing, therefore, the HACR marking is no longer required on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment or on circuit breakers for use in these applications. The requirement for this marking has also been removed from the UL 1995 product standard for HVAC equipment (see item 3 in photo 1).

Your panel is part of the PL line and is compatible with QP, QPH, and HQP breakers.

As manwithtools posted above U need a Siemens Q230U.

Home depot and Lowes in most stores/areas no longer stock siemens stuff but u can order them on their website and have them shipped to the store for free or your house for free if over set amount.

Check online first to see whether your local store has them or not.

No u CANNOT use a GE or any brand other than Siemens in a Siemens panel.

Thanks for the reply's everyone. I was at HD and they do have Siemens breakers but no mention of HACR on the package or on the web sight. The Lowes sight specifically stated HACR and it looks like the same breaker.

Thanks

Got the Siemens breakers from HD. Despite nothing in the specs there is HACR printed on the front in very tiny letters. My guess is they don't put it in the published specs anymore because as others have pointed out it's no longer an NEC requirement.:dunno:

Last time I put in a new breaker box, the inspector failed me because I used a different brand breaker then the box, I show him the paper work that came with the breaker that side that it would work with the brand box that I had. The inspector then pointed out that the box said to use no other brand of breaker in their box.

Every breaker box says that. If u have the paperwork that says the breaker is classified for use in the panel u used it in then the inspector is ignorant.

What brand and model of panel and breaker did u have?
