Came home for lunch and found this behind my shop. Fortunately it fell on my septic system and not on my air compressor (which was in range along with the back 10 feet of my shop). It had two trunks and one is still standing. So that will have to come down as well. I was planning on having my tree guy take down two trees closer to the shop so I can add on. But it looks like those bucks are going to clean up this mess. If I can get the other trees down in the fall the soil should be ready to build on in the spring. So all is not lost. But this is a setback.

I had half of a ~150 yr old hard maple fall on my house a few years back landed on my roof, I got lucky and it only broke a fascia board. Couldn't believe it as it was about 2' in diameter. Was lots of fun clearing off the roof. I hired a guy to take down the other half before my luck ran out.

Looks like an excuse to break out the chain saw. What's wrong with that?

I just cut down about 100' tall and it was over 40" at the base today it took me 5 hrs with my skid steer to clean it up. of course It had to be dropped in my neighbors yard so I had to clean everything up spotless. I have to fill up holes and sew grass tomorrow if it doesn't rain. Good luck and be thankfull it didn't fall on your house. that is why I took this one down because it could have fell on my neighbors house.

The tree service guy that I use was supposed to be here at 8 AM. That slipped to about 2 PM. While I was waiting i got out my good old Sears 100' fabric tape measure and took a reading. The trunk on the ground was 80' tall to the top.

In about 2 hours they dropped the second 80' trunk and started taking down the dead oak next to my shop. They will be back in the morning to finish taking down the oak and another dead soldier along my drive.

Once my back yard dries out they will return to cut up and remove the 80 foot sweet gum boles and grind the stumps.

The only good news in this is that taking out the dead oak next to my shop clears a space for the storage shed that I need.

Looks like we are going to be putting our "Economic Incentive" into the economy. Oh well, easy come, easy go.

The tree fell. Was it healthy? It is my understanding the tree has to damage something a chair or something, to be covered by insurance. You may have a claim.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the only damage was to the lawn. And my pocket book. The tree was rotten at the bottom. I wanted to take it out eight years ago when we built the house. But doing that was just to much at the time. And it would have delayed installation of our septic system. So I made a decision to let it stand.

That is a good size tree, But I would not have paid to have it cut it. The kids would have been dragging brush all saturday morning.

Yah, keep on them. I didn't and raised two real lazy boys. They make a Cal-Trans Worker look good.

For those not familiar with Cal-Trans, this is the State Organization that takes care of the Highway/Freeway system in California. There is a long time joke about there character. When you drive by a spot where they are suppose to be working, they are all dressed out in Orange shirts and hard hats and numerous Orange Trucks parked all over the place at a ratio of at least 1:1, and the majority are leaning on a shovels.

The boys started off well, dragging brush from tree trimming and ****, something happened and 10-12 years later they are just plain lazy…

I busted concrete on my new build a couple of weekends ago and my wife (52), Brother-n-law (58), myself (52) worked two days for 7-8 hours each day and my lazy Son could only handle about an hour. During that hour he resembled a Cal-Trans Employee.

Sounds like they are teenages now?
Don't b too hard on them - teens are the laziest - it's a growing stage hopefully! If you riased them right and push through those years they'll still become good people. I know my dad had me working hard, I got LAZY in my teens and now...I'm doing what he did.
How about the rest of you?

Re: Had Better Days/Get the kids working!

Mine are 3 and 6months. Got to start them early.

Who are you kidding? My two boys are the same age and THEY keep ME working. :D

I have a couple dead trees that the drought took for me last year, I need to get them down. Anybody need a 50ish foot hickory trunk? I could have a hyooooooj pig roast, I guess.

When my 2 year old tricycle motor (nephew) is around, I have him picking up short wood scraps and putting them in the bin for me.
