Guy in the shop next door did this one this morning tightening a radiator hose clamp... Seriously! Couldn't believe it myself! he wasn't using it as a prybar or chisel either. Snappy will replace it but damn! Everyone gets a clunker some time!

Wasn't is different than hasn't.he wasn't using it as a prybar or chisel either.
I’m callin![]()
No doubt I would not have believed it myself, but exactly WASN'T doesn't mean Hasn't but I do know he has prybars on his tool cart, and takes pretty good care of his tools. Not SURE how you can even tighten a clamp THAT tight!
OP knows the SO guy.Can anyone come up with a motive for the coworker lying to the OP about how it was broken?
That doesnt appear to be a torsion failure of the shaft... I have strong suspicion is was used as a prybar.
If it was Craftsman, it wouldn't matter why it broke, just get a new one. Just saying.
I'm pretty new here at GJ, and hearing that SO can be a challenge to get an item warrantied is interesting.
That must be some good stuff.Broke a big screwdriver shank in two places on a hose clamp? Yup. ******** is the correct call.

I'm no SO fanboy, but I have a hard time believing this. How did he manage to break the shank in 2 places? Seems like once it broke in 1 place, no way to cause it to break in another.
That lower break is definitely not a rotational break. That nib at the break would show a rotational twist.
pry bar...just sayin..

I have NEVER had a snap-on dealer refuse a warranty unless he just didn't have the item on the truck or a suitable sub, I have had "sears" Craftsman be a gigantic pain in the *** about a ratchet... Sockets etc the Department store engineer was absolutely sure it had been used on an impact.... it had not... I've sent Snappy a photo of a broken flex ratchet via E-mail and they shipped me a replacement (I broke it but it was a buddy's ratchet) I gave him the replacement and he took his broken one to his snap-on dealer and they warrantied it again... No questions. Just my experience with them. I haven't turned wrenches professionally in many many years but I love my Snap-On tools.
If you notice, those "nibs" are on opposite sides at each break. That tells me that screwdriver was being bent when it broke.
