This may be my first post but I've been on here for over a month researching and reading your opinions about tools. I recently moved to Nettetal Germany from the U.S. and only came with a suitcase so its time to rebuild my box with stuff I can get easily obtain and warranty here and in South Africa. Already have another move planned but the next one wont be short notice so I'm taking my box with me.
Ive worked as: a shade tree auto mechanic or directly with a master mechanic, as an electronics tech for the Marine Corps, as an electrician, a general contractor doing mostly additions or garages this list goes on so I would call myself a jack of all trades master of none. Never the less I'm use to owning every tool needed to do nearly anything, if not I knew someone close by that would have it. I sort of feel stranded on an island now as Europe isn't known for having affordable large land plots with garages.
I try to pick up the best value tool for the job. I'm not bound by makers marks. I will say that most of the brands I trusted back in the states are simply unavailable here and Germans are pretty proud of their products and the prices reflect that. I read reviews and your opinions on here for a week before deciding on a electricians starter set from Knipex. Wife wasn't happy since our apt didn't come with lighting haha. Found the stuff to be vastly overrated compared to my old Klein gear. So Ill be doing more research before the next purchase. Still awaiting a 954N from Hazet to arrive and just picked up an old Heyco 1/2 12pt kit that had a mix of Hazet, Stahlwille and Elora sockets and spanners in it, when I get a chance to try em out Ill post up my opinions on em.
Thanks for all the help so far
