Ladies & Gentlemen:

How would you rate the above vise?
Is it comparable to the " Record " Made in England vise, resale value etc?

Thanks & Regards,

Daryl

I would have no doubt that you could get 75$ for that No5, it is a later production record knock off and looks to be in decent shape....
so, where abouts are you :) ?

Hi Jask - Thanks. I've been bitten by the vise bug and looking to buy this one,
I am based out here in Montréal.

If you go look at it look for the common problems with that pattern of Records... grab the handle and push the dynamic jaw toward the static jaw and look for wear on the casting.. point it out to the seller... push/pull on the screw and dynamic jaw and look for play.. wear on the fixed nut of the screw is uncommon and unlikely with a vice that looks that clean. look for misalignment in the jaws as they close, try to pinch a penny on each side of the jaw ( at a time ) and see if it deflects and closes on the opposite side without crushing the penny. put something hard in the vice and beat it with a big f*cking hammer... object should stay put ..vice should laugh at you both ...
pay the man his money and let your kids know who will get it when you die.
