Hammer in question is a 3lb. Sledge, I found this in a house we moved into in 1965, have been using it ever since I started working on cars in the late 70's even though the handle needs to be replaced.

I guess what I am trying to find out is who made this hammer, there is a partial mfg mark stamped in it.
If anyone could identify this mark and maybe estimate when it could have been made and by who I would appreciate it.
Just kind of curious about it...

Thanks for the reply,
Did not see it in the Atha catalog from 1901, also in the Stanley catalog, it lists a 3lb sledge with handle for $5.32 but the mark that Stanley used is different than the mark on my hammer.
I'm guessing it is a Atha made hammer, question is from what year approximately?

At least I now know who made it thanks to RTM.

I just noticed the Stanley catalog is from 1957, so it would have had to be made before that.
Anyone know when Stanley aquired Atha?
Yeah, I could Google that but I'm sure someone here knows.

Looks like they were aquired in 1913, now the question is when did they change their mark they stamped on the hammers?

It's Atha, and I don't remember when Stanley bought them, but I think the logo changed to include numbers after Stanley bought them.

I got my info from a seller on ebay when I was looking into info on my atha splitting maul. He stated that based on the logo (not having numbers along with the horseshoe) meant the youngest it was is 120 years old.

That really narrows it down, so at least 120 or so years old, I think it's time for a new handle to keep this in service for another 100 years. Now I'm curious if it has the original handle, I'll have to remove the duct tape from the handle to have a closer look.

I’m going to jump on this thread looking for identification of maker of these two guys. Purpose, manufacturer, time frame. Handles are modern junk.
