Cool thread

Outlaw, that contraption is wicked. Totally OSHA approved, right? I could see things going south in a hurry when operating that thing.

Nine, what kinda drawer is that? Is that an old file cabinet or something? Must be sturdy to take all the weight.

Dave $1 for that hammer was an awesome find.

As promised, here is the picture of a hammer that i bought a few weeks ago. I ended up trading it to my dad for some things he bought me.

Anybody have any idea what its for?

Looks like a variation of a Japanese style forging hammer. Weight forward design.

BTW, great job on that craftsman repaint. Looks great

WHY? When I copy and paste "link location" it's just giving the location and not th picture. I followed Outlaws tutorial in the photo below.

It was a 6 drawer lateral file cabinet that I cut down and welded into a Datamation notebook charging station. They are/were rated at 165lbs each, I think.

Posts 30 and 31 in this thread show it coming together.

Then painted and using in this thread.

Usually I find the best way is either attach the image or use imagshack to host.

WOW, color me impressed. That is freaking awesome. Dang near the perfect tool box w/ wide, thin drawers

Dave, very nice! I wonder if the Heller hammers were made by the same company here in Cleveland that made the Heller Tacker staple guns (I have one, Bell System of course).

Outlaw thought I should post this in the hammer time thread.

I apparently picked up an unusual BP hammer a few weeks ago. I bought the hammer head without a handle at a Garage sale for cheap. It just seemed different. I went to the hardware store and the only hammer handles they had in stock were for Claw hammers - but it seemed to fit.

Until I looked at another BP hammer at home I didn't realize that my new hammer was the ******* love child from a BP and a Claw hammer spending a hot sweaty night in a toolbox drawer some time ago.

It's marked 24 and P on the top of the head - no other markings.

Thanks Jeff! IDK about the history of Heller, so I looked it up, and all I can find is this...http://www.davistownmuseum.org/bioHellerBros.html

No mention of Cleveland, or anywhere for that matter, and no mention of anything beside farrier tooling. :dunno:

I'll keep looking b/c now I'm interested.

SOME? :wtf: Where the heck do you find so many hammers? How did you come across an entire box of new hammers? Only Dave.

So... when is opening day for your tool store?

EDIT, I don't see any body hammers? Are those in a separate box? I'd be a little disappointed if you didn't own any body hammers.

lol...just yard sales pretty much, maybe a little at the swap meet. But I don't think I've paid over $2 for any of these used hammers. I'll walk before I give 3 bucks, unless it's crazy cool or a Martin or something.

That new box of hammers is from Italy, all Italian writing, found it on CL...some kid was selling dad's tools???:dunno: (Dad had passed).

Tool store? I'd be trying to buy people's tools from their work truck---that would never work! :lol_hitti

And yes, I have body hammers elsewhere. Here's a pic. I NEVER see body tools at yard sales or swap meets :dunno: So I just have a HF set from CL for 10 bucks. It was missing one hammer and I did find a BONDO one at a yard sale.

And here's my workbench with some more hammers, and then my baby. A 14oz Stiletto.

ok Outlaw. Here we go. Outback I counted 104 hammers, plus 5 full size/2-handed sledges. I did not count the ones in vehicle or trailer tool boxes. (maybe 6 or 7 more???)

These are all complete working hammers with handle. I did not count separate handles or heads. I'll have to go count and photo axes and hatchets.

Here's some pics of stragglers I just took. Some in shop, garage, construction trailer, and rusty workbench out side.

It's not a problem until you hit four digits, at least that's what I keep telling myself :lol_hitti

 Ya know, they say the first step is admitting you have a problem. :lol_hitti

With all those hammers, you must do a lot of pounding. :pimp:

Hell!!!! This is your guys' fault!! I had no say in the matter. If I never joined GJ and saw the likes of Outlaw, zkling, nine4, Moss, Monte, Jack Olsen, and everyone else, maybe I could afford to eat. This is ridiculous!

I like to Pound!

And yes, 4 digits...that sounds like a good goal nine4! :lol_hitti:beer:

That's not bad! You could have a shot at the GJ crown with a bit of work, maybe...

Mind you, I'm not sure I have it either. I have at least 158 hammers, If I include all the "Striking tools" including sledges, hatchets, and axes, I'm at least 263.

Problem? What problem? I see a hammer (axe or hatchet) I like, It's cheap, I buy it. No problem! :D

I have trouble finding my neon orange and yellow hammers after I set them down, that thing would be a nightmare.

I hope he doesn't use that in a grassy field. :lol_hitti

Reminds me of a friend I shoot archery with. He bought a dozen camo hunting arrows because they were on clearance super cheap. Good CF, proper spine arrows, just different pattern. Bad day, launched a few over the 70m. I don't think I have ever heard so many cuss words in a short amount of time. I then fully understood the "needle in a haystack" phrase.

Since we are on the topic of body hammers- do any of youse know if there is anything special about the hardness of your average double faced square/ round body hammer? I found one that, upon light use seems to be on the soft side (deep scarring on the working surface). Thoughts anyone?

I definitely do not have a hammer problem! Probably 25 hammers at the most.
Now screwdrivers and pliers on the other hand...

You'd have 27 or 28 if you didn't send me the two or three you did a long while back.
:)

I didn't realize how hammer happy I;ve gotten until I realized I need to rehandle 2 small ball peens (1 courtesy of Outlaw :) ) and a tack hammer and stopped by my local hdwre store and was told he needed to order a case of 12 in that small size. They are made just west in Indiana here in the USA.

I said if you keep 3 handles to sell I take the other 9 at just above your cost if that is cool.

Voila'. Nine 10" ball peen/machinist handles will be in for me Thursday. :)

Now I just gotta buy 6 more small hammers/heads or stay tuned to this thread to sell some off.

LOLOLOLZZZZZZ.

What I;d like to do is find a way to reuse the old handles off the old hammers on ones that are not split or only damaged near the head.

I made one into a notched pushstick for the table saw.
Works like a champ.

I guess cut, bevel , hang and turn into coat hangers works too.

I have previous been showing some of my old hammers on the "tools from the old world" thread, but member 2oolhound suggested me to post them here. So, here it goes. You guys just continue to amaze me - great photos, and many brands i´ve never heard of before. Too bad, there are so few US made hammers here in Denmark, in fact, the only i´ve seen, are a few Estwings on a trip to some swedish fleamarkets... I must simply look harder!

View media item 25426Danish made carpenters claw hammers. Although they look identical, these are different brands; From top: DSI (Dansk stål industri = Danish steel industry), Sprehn & son, DSI and Zinck. This design is quite special for Denmark i think, Swedish hammers looks different (They are more like peen ball type, or all-metal claw type), but since nearly all danish toolfactories are closed, a type like these can be found in the danish version of the Peddinghaus (Germany) catalogue. The Swedish "Tor" brand (now a part of the Hultafors group) features a danish style carpenters hammer too. They sort of won the scandinavian hammer market, and now when we even have a bridge connecting Sweden and Denmark, they might feel obliged...

View media item 25425All these are from DSI. The weight is indexed in class 1, 2 and 3. The shafts are in ash.

View media item 25424
View media item 25423
View media item 25420Not much branding here...it´s like "what letters for stamping do we have in the drawer today?"

View media item 25419Typical fastening with one wedge in hardwood or steel, needs a slap for tightening now and then...but since these are all over 30 years old, i guess they will last a litle longer...

View media item 25418Some of my German hammers, Wisent from Bauhaus store (Habero), Peddinghaus and Habero "nearly Danish style". German ring-wedge and hickory shafts, steel re-enforcement around the head. Is there any better way to make a hammer?

View media item 25417Habero, Peddinhaus soft face and Habero. The Habero to the right side is the first hammer I bought, so it has been used a lot - for 20 years or so. Others from local fleemarkets.
COO labeling isn´t required here in Denmark, so you got to pick your tools carefully...
Is COO a demand by law in the US?

My only Snap On hammer. I have searched the web for old catalogues but couldn´t find this type.
View media item 25415Truly American - "Always wear safety gogles, helmet and fasten your seatbelt - and don´t do drugs" on the shaft.;)

View media item 25414The shaft used to be a little longer, but at a price of 10 DKK (1½ US$) it was a bargain...

View media item 30983
This hammer is from a flea market too...i don´t know what it made for - i use it as a welders hammer, but the point is quite soft. Like the look, though. Member neophyte thinks it´s a shoemakers hammer. Have you got any ideas?

Dave, please take me out of that line up. I'm not worthy to be considered in that group of members. I'm just a long winded grasshopper that has recently been running my mouth a bit too much on here.

I'll see if I can get a pic of my hammer drawer this evening (notice Dave, drawer is singular;)). Although my power hammer is quite a bit bigger than Outlaws' :p

I think it is cool that you have so many hammers, but I just don't see the need for 100+ hammers. :dunno: Then again for the prices you guys pay for them ($1-$2), they are probably a better investment than just about anything else these days, so carry on.

Now this guy has a LOT of hammers. :lol_hitti
