Seems like an off the shelf solution is hard to find for this. I’m refinishing parts on an older machine and looking for that wonderful light metallic green hammer tone that was applied to practically everything at one point in time.

Can’t seem to find any suppliers of it, any leads would be appreciated.

There are several longish threads on exactly this topic, some with pretty recent updates. A little hunting should turn them up, especially with the term “verde green”. Those should give you a good start (if not a good answer).

I don't think my Stanley mug matches what you need but I like the classic look.

Some ideas:

also read somewhere about spraying a bit of black first, just to have some spots basically, then the colour on top of that . for sure I'd want to use a test pc before I tried it tho

They still make it, but because those ridiculously-priced Wilton vises that everyone restores and sells for $500 were painted that color, they get snapped up pretty quick. I've seen people reselling the rattle cans for something like $20.

I bought a quart of silver and a quart of dark green. I’m going to mix them for some parts. Some parts I also need silver so it works out there.

Finally got around to using this paint. I rolled it on to allow it be even and encourage more hammering effect. Seemed to work but the hammer effect is pretty light. Happy with the color. I may go back and fill a few of the holes for a smoother overall finish, but pretty happy with the result. The machine looked like hell previously, in spite of the fact that I have a rather large investment in it in terms of parts.

The back panel was mushed up by the previous owner, so my father and I hammered it out as best we could, filled it and sanded.

Will post more photos after lettering.

Nice job!

You might find that adding a final coat of lacquer adds some shine!

I have to be careful with advice here, as I’m in the U.K. so particular brands may not be available where you are, but generally you have 3 options for this sort of thing.

1) Buy the paint “off the shelf “. The best known brand of hammered finish paint here is “Hammerite” but there are half a dozen others. If one doesn’t offer the colour you want, another probably will.

This manufacturer offers a light green.

2) Go to a local trade paint supplier. I have a choice of 5 within 10 miles. All of them sell a hammered finish metal paint. Most keep a few standard colours in stock, but keep generic base colours so can mix anything on request at small extra charge.

This firm offers a light green as standard.

3) Go to a specialist paint supplier and order online. I use a company that supplies a lot of enamel paints for machine tools, so I can just order “Myford Grey” or “Fobco Blue” and get the exact colour. I recently repainted some parts on a Startrite pillar drill, and that was a hammered green.

It's gotten much worse in the last year, then.

Oh yea I remember hearing about this a few years ago. Did rustoleum ever release it again or was it discontinued or what happened?

Here is what the back panel looked like, the aluminum panel above was also damaged. The seller was very careful to avoid showing any of these things.
Someone had also hacked in a static converter by wiring a capacitor onto the 3rd leg of the motor. Which, of course, was not complete without a j-box nailed to a board for the plug cord to join into. (Rather than take the time to run it into the machine like normal). It’s absolutely bizarre to me that someone paid for this machine then cut corners to that degree. These machines are outrageously expensive new, and always have been.

So I ended up having to make a motor controller box, ended up replacing the motor. Replaced the main belt (these are about $800), drive belts and added in two replaceable knife setups.

To keep it modest at the time I swapped in a used 2.2kw Mitsubishi motor, but it’s old and worn, so it struggles sometimes. I bought a new motor from the Italian maker ‘Lafert’ in 3kw to swap in. They’re all 100L frame units.

Aren't you the one listing them for $70 per can in the classifieds?

At least he generously included shipping in the $70 price. :lol_hitti :headshake

Finished lettering…mostly, I might tighten up a few areas once it cures.

Next, having a tag made to fill in what was previously the control panel. It’ll be an updated version of the tag above the current control box.

What ratio of green to silver did you use? I’m thinking of buying a qt of Rustoleum hammered silver and mixing in some Rustoleum gloss Hunter Green.
