I have a Milwaukee Hole shooter, 1/2 chuck heavy duty corded drill. I would like to mount it on a stand and convert it to a portable drill press to put in my race car trailer. Since buying my first of several dewalt cordless tools in 1996 I haven't used a corded drill since. I'm a millwright by trade and a racecar mechanic on the weekends. I have an industrial floor model drill press in my shop but find myself needing to drill random holes at the track. So I want a stand to put the Milwaukee drill motor on that I can use inside the trailer.
Has anyone on here fabricated such a thing or have a place that produces a quality stand that I can buy?
I'm a fairly good fabricator since that's what I do for a living but I'd like to get some ideas before I go off and make my own mistakes building one from scratch. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,

I know this answer does not answer your question but why not just buy a bench model drill press. They are not that expensive brand new and even less on Craigslist. Seems like a homemade one would have most of the limitations of a bench model anyway. Unless you just want the experience of building your own, I would just buy one and put your time and efforts into something else.

A small DP as mentioned would probably be better, but watch at flea markets and yard sales, in the 40's through at least the 60's several companies sold a DP stand for hand drills to be clamped in...

I found an old table top holder for a hand drill to convert it to a small drill press at the swap meet for $7.00. I had no intention of using it for that purpose however, as I made it into a tap starter. I think it was originally sold by Sears.

Which model Hole-Shooter? D-handle, Super, or Magnum? How old?

Milwaukee used to make drill press stands for the D-handle Hole-Shooters and Super Hole-Shooters. Won't work with the Magnum Hole-Shooter. They've discontinued the stands, but it might be possible to find NOS or used.

No. 3500 drill stand fits the 1000, 1100, 1200 series Hole-Shooters

No. 3520 fits the 1600 series Super Hole-Shooters

No. 3540 fits the 1700 series and larger Super Hole-Shooters

Otherwise, a bench-top drill press would probably be your best bet.

Yes, there are a dozen different variations of what you want. They've been in production since the first 1/2" drill was sold. The good ones work wonderfully well.

No, they're not all created equal. Like any tool, there are some junk light duty versions.

Maybe, shop around and ask here on the forum.

A while back, I had a big old school B&D 1/2" drill which turned really slow and came with a B&D heavy duty stand. That sucker would eat a hole in steel plate which would have stalled any belt driven bench DP I ever owned.
