Snap-on is excellent but also very expensive, do anyone know or at your own opinion, what other brand is second to Snap-on

The answer to that question in my opinion would be the Cornwell brand, but they're not necessarily second to Snap-on; they're more like a very good optional choice.

Proto makes a lot of great hand tools as does Armstrong or Wright. Personally I would say that Proto makes better wrenches than Snap on does.

I guess I don't have a hard time understanding how someone convinces themselves that a S-O combo wrench is better than an Armstrong or Proto. But I don't know if it's true. The chrome's really nice, that's for sure. Is the tool steel the same for all three? It would be interesting to find out what the differences are.

Ooooh. You guys gotta try Mac Knuckle Saver 2, those combo wrenches are comfy in your hands and are also strong as nails. I have been told by my Mac dude that those things are Bonney wrenches, but hey - I like them quite a bit. Get the extra long versions if you are buying new.

( Yes, I do own a complete set of S.O. FD+ to compare them too )
