Seeking (can't hurt to ask right):
Basic hand wood carving tools of usable quality.

Ideally a "starter set" of palm tools covering the basics usually including:
  • A flat chisel
  • A scew
  • A V-Tool (AKA Parting Tool)
  • A Viener (tiny gouge)
  • A couple/few sizes of general gouges
OR singles to work toward a set OR if you just have a cigar box of randoms you can offer for me to pick through that would be of interest too.

I am happy to clean off surface rust if they aren't pitted and sharpen/hone them myself if they aren't in ideal condition, as long as they are "restorable". It probably goes without saying but please no Chinese junk I could pick up at Harbor Freight or Michael's, but I'm not really seeking flagship brands here either (not that I'd necessarily turn down high end stuff).

Times are tough all around of course so the ideal situation would be low-cost OR some kind of trade arrangement. Some potential on-topic trade items that come to mind I could offer (with cash either direction to make up any value disparity):
  • Columbian #804 welded steel 4" swivel bench vise.
  • I have a hodge-podge of old air-cooled VW parts (ask for what you want if that's of interest)
  • Vintage USA made Exhaust Gas Analyzer
  • Replica wooden dead-fall mouse trap
  • NEY super-vac vacuum pump
  • Large lock pinning kit
  • Some routers (woodworking not network)
  • A couple bench mount motors for grinders/polishers (Might be a lot to ship they're heavy)
  • A square EAGLE gum/candy/nut coin op vending machine (no base/stand)
I met our wood-carving club at the local county fair a couple months ago. I've always thought it would be fun to learn to carve wood so I chatted with them for a good while on the topic, and was invited to join. My daughter (12 going on 13), to my surprise, asked to join me. Now we're both learning to hand-carve wood and enjoying both the learning process and the time together. Who knows if this is a hobby that will stick for either of us long term. For now I'm looking for starter tools that don't break the bank rather than continue borrowing the club's set that are cheap and dull and they won't let me try to sharpen them for fear I'll mess them up worse :)
