Handheld Planishers

[Nor'Easter]

I am looking to build a handheld planisher. Has anyone made their own? To be blunt the ones of acceptable quality are in the thousands, and I just don't see the parts and material as worth it.

Thinking of something small, maybe 18" reach. Ideally I'd like to avoid using an actual air hammer, but I'm not sure what kind of device I could use other than that.

I have to do some further smoothing of a fender, as well as smoothing of a bunch of dimpled and formed areas on a firewall.

Ideas?

instead of an air hammer, maybe a pnuematic needle scaler? They move faster and lighter than an airhammer.
