Hanging a Hot Dawg Heater

Any suggestions on how one person may be able to hang a heater by them selves. What have others done here?

Assuming you plan to hang it via some unistrut, you could use ratcheting tie straps. I'd use four (one at each corner) and just raise each corner slowly. Once you get it close you should be able to adjust it by hand to get your brackets and/or rods fastened.

Otherwise you may have to take the safe route and ask a buddy to assist you with a couple of ladders and some muscle.

unistrut or kindorf is what you want to use to hang the heater easily.

You will want a helper to lift it up there though, i don't think i'd try that myself.
Not worth the consequences of a) you falling off the ladder b) dropping the heater or
c) both falling to the floor.

If you do your homework getting the unistrut installed, you can hang it with the help of a buddy in probably 5 minutes.

I did exactlly what Costner said, if patience is used it can be done injury free.

I installed a heavy eye bolt into a stud above the unit. Then used the little $3 or $4 rope hoist from HF to hoist it up (ran 2 small ropes from corner to corner and lifted at the crossing point in the middle). Left the eye bolt in place in case I need to remove the unit for servicing or something.

That's a great idea. Sort of like a televison mount ,but upside down.

I used a drywall lifter rented from Home Depot. Certainly strong enough for the job and easy to get it right first time. I had to mount mine a 2nd time after I had my garage enlarged. Highly recommended.

I went a similar way to dipper. Two years ago.

I managed to get the unit up on top of a ladder, then used long pieces of threaded rod, and spun the nuts to run the unit up. Worked from corner to corner, round and round. Hardest part was getting it up on the ladder, but that wasn't too bad.

I had another ladder to work off of.

When I got it where I wanted it (2-1/2" off the ceiling), spun up another nut to lock them, and then cut the excess rod off.

I did it in a night after work, not including the gas piping or running the wire, but including the thimble/vent and elec hookup.

X-2 with hammlm...it's really awkward getting up on top of the ladder, but doable. I don't have any neighbors that will help...so I got everything ready and easliy accessible...(nuts/washers). Set the ladder up so I could still reach the threadall coming out of the ceiling...and have room to lift up the unit. It was VERY awkward...but I took my time, and got it up there in one piece. If you have someone that will help...I would STRONGLY suggest you wait for their help!!!

ratchet straps for me, only bad part was having to stop every 5-6 rounds and release the strap and re tighten it..lol slow but steady.
